Pics of my install - PDX 5 Audison Bit 1

I have finally taken some pictures and thought I would share my install.

Pretty much everything in the car has been upgraded:
Morel tempo coax 4 inch front and rear
Alpine PDX 5
Audison Bit 1
Earthquake SWS 8

I am VERY happy with the sound. Originally I had planned on putting a sub in the trunk however once the earthquakes had some power to them - they are very impressive. The trade off on the cost to put in a custom enclosure in the rear bump out is not worth it as these are more than I expected. My last car had a 12 inch in the hatchback so the factory certainly left something to be desired!

The next step will be to upgrade the front speakers to components as the Bit 1 offers time alignment which gets rid of the slight phase difference that is pronounced with the factory tweeters. (This is why I went co-ax in the first place.)

The Bit 1 did a great job of taking out the factory processing. I tested it to see what it sounded like prior to and there was a very noticeable difference in sound quality. Tuning the car was professionally done with a RTA and the *sparkle* in the sound is incredible. The ability to hook up your laptop and adjust all your settings is pretty impressive too.

Thats where the original amp is mounted; its a perfect spot for a new amplifier and accessory electronics.

I found a place in BC that had the earthquakes for about $150 each in canada - most places were $200 each. You are lucky being in the US as you can get them for ~$100.

Technic - we have PM'd before about the Bit 1 - I was trebat on e90post and decided to keep my 1addicts name when the boards merged.

Citizen Z - the amp is actually mounted on the other side of where the factory goes. I guess that the shop found that it fit better there than on the side where the factory amp is. Curious to see where they put your PDX - i posted at one point on the forum on how to locate the amplifier. There are step by step pics on how to take off the side carpet panels to see what they did.

(a car wash is on the menu just as soon as it warms up....was -25C this AM and definately not car wash weather!)

The Bit 1 does alot of things including:
-removes the factory processing of the sound (there are a few peaks to the sound to compensate for vehicle acoustics noticable in the upper mid range as well as a bass boost at lower volume settings)
-allows you to adjust the sound to your personal taste via 32 different frequency points along the spectrum
-allows you to adjust the sound quality on the input of say your ipod vs the overall system
-gives you ability to set the time alignment on the various speakers to ensure all the sound arrives at your ear in perfect time. ie the drivers speaker is closer than the passenger speaker so it puts a delay on one to give the best possible accoustic signature
-provides a strong signal to your external amplifier inputs
+ lots more

They list in canada around $700 but you can get them online in the US for half of that.

Clean install......I like the lack of neon that seems to be prevelant these days with high end systems!

Nice work, any reason why you only went with 4" up front? Is that the biggest you can fit in there?

Bit1 sounds like a great unit, better even than the Alpine equivalent... Where is the 8" sub located?

4" is what fits in the stock location. There is only 50mm clearance between the window as well. I think that there is a thread on here where people have tried different fitments too.

Subs are under the seats in the factory locations.

Bye Bye GTI: can bit one accept differential/balanced output of OEM HU? or you use the speaker level signal after the OEM AMP?

Good looking install.

Question:
I know a lot of guys like that amp, I'm guessing because it offers 5 channels in one nice sized pkg. However, looking at the specs I'm not surprised at how many complaints there are about noisy PDX amps.
Signal to noise is a paltry low-fi 77db.
Other than convenience and class D operation, why?
I'd rather go with a 4ch and a D class single or bridged dual sub amp.
Yes, more wiring, but cleaner sound.
After all the time and money, to me, that's the more important thing, imo.

The OEM amp is completely bypassed in my setup. The Bit 1 accepts the speaker level outputs from the head unit with no troubles.

Just for clarity and general information: the Bit 1 accepts the low level, differential outputs from the head unit with no troubles.

A little confusing. Should I connect the HU output to the SPEAKER IN (high level input) of bitone, or PRE IN (low level input) of bitone?
