Listening to music over bluetooth in car

I did a small search and noticed in some threads that our cars don't support streaming music over bluetooth, but my question is, is there a firmware flash for the BMW units that would allow this?? If not, bummer!!

I'm not sure about other model years, but my 2011 w/HK audio allows me to stream bluetooth audio from my iPhone (assuming it's paired correctly).

What settings? I also have an '11 w/ HK and don't see any options for bluetooth streaming.......

Any info would be hugely appreciated! I really want to stream Pandora!

I'll second that question? How did you get this to work? I also have an '11 w/HK, and my Palm Pre works great with the car as a phone, and works great with bluetooth headphones, but no luck with streaming bluetooth audio in the car. Pandora would be cool.

One you pair your phone to the car, it should show up under "External Devices" (the same place a hooked up iPod would show). Once you select it, the phone's audio should play through the stereo. I can try and take some pics if this doesn't make any sense.

Do you have iDrive, or is this using just the HK stereo? When I press the Audio button on the radio, it displays radio, CD, aux and usb. I don't see any external devices. I don't have an iPod, so I don't know if it would show up if one was plugged in.

Rats! I guess the streaming bluetooth audio must be an additional feature of the iDrive system that's not included in the HK stereo.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. But I think the OP is asking "streaming over blue tooth". If you hook it up to where the ipod is using the cable, then it's not streaming over bluetooth.

I did some research on the BMW websites, and it looks like if you have the iDrive/Nav option and certain phones (iPhone, some Android phones), you will be able to listen to music from your phone via streaming bluetooth audio. Otherwise, we're out of luck.

I sucks that we cant with HK audio. It's the only option missing that would otherwise make a great stock system.

Why don't you get one of these?
http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Rem...7692208&sr=8-1

I'm planning on getting this, don't have it yet, but many of the reviews are from BMW owners. I have the base stereo, no bluetooth, but I have the aux jack & usb.

Good find. I may bite the bullet and try it out. I just hope the quality isn't diminished

Bluetooth Streaming

I bought this in December because I wanted to listen to Pandora/SlingBox without having to plug in my iPhone to the Aux/USB port under the armrest (A2DP ANYCOM FIPO BLUETOOTH ADAPTER AUDIO RECEIVER):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190398926219

Works great...once in a while I have to turn off my Bluetooth (from my phone initially when I get into my car) then turn it back on because of "skipping/pauses" but after the re-sync it works perfectly.

FYI...this device connects to the USB/Aux BMW cable (it has the same connection port as the iPhone). The BMW USB port has enough juice to power this device and syncs to the iPhone as soon as I sit in the car. If you have any questions...shoot me a PM.

Got the Blackberry bluetooth music gateway- Winning!

Just received and setup the Blackberry bluetooth music gateway
http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Rem...7692208&sr=8-1
and it's awesome! It paired with no effort, it sounds good - bass-rich, and loud - and it works whenever I step into the car with the phone.

It fits right in the iPhone case under the armrest, hooks-up via the aux-in and is powered by the usb port. So far, so good, and I saved about $950 on bluetooth & smartphone integration.

I tried this out a month or so ago and some songs pop and the quality was kinda crappy. Maybe I'll give it another go with a different AUX cable

It was between the blackberry and the Sprint devices. The latter got So-so reviews, the blackberry got overwhelmingly good reviews.

If this unit develops any problems, I'll report back.

I just finished replacing the AUX cable thinking it was what caused the diminished quality with the blackberry bluetooth and I got the same result. Though it's tolerable, the quality isn't great at all as it would be just hooking up the AUX cable straight from phone to the AUX jack in the center console. Maybe there are some more high quality options, but I would like better quality when listening to my music

I specifically ordered the Blackberry unit, because of the number of reviews on Amazon that said it was virtually the same as a wired connection. Also, many of the reviews were from BMW owners. So, regardless of my personal experience with it, I would look at the other reviews, and consider the possibility that you got a defective unit.

I also ordered the blackberry unit after reading all the positive reviews. While it works as it's supposed to, the quality IS NOT as good as if it was hooked straight in from the AUX. It's not a defective unit as I purchased 2 one for my 128i and the other for our X5. My wife also noticed that the sound quality isn't as clear or crisp as it was when it was from phone to the cars AUX. I even let 2 friends listen to the difference today and they undoubtedly noticed the reduction in sound quality. Maybe you got a better unit than the 2 I got, though I doubt it, but it's cool either way.
