this is the original bmw pic
That pic is of an F25 euro spec X3. In the US they all come with a lcd screen there whether you get nav or not. I don't know how you'd mount it if you don't have have an empty spot on the dash where the screen belongs like on those euro spec X3s. Where is this supposed to mount on a 1 series?

FOUND THE SOLUTION: Proclip.

Its pricey but totally worth it. I got the mount that clips to the side of the console and the iPhone 4 tilt mount. It is so nice and would highly suggest it.

That's what I was thinking, too. Can you post pics of your setup? Would like to see it in action before buying.
Thanks!

Crbalch,

That looks pretty damn good. That exactly how/where I'd like to mount my iPhone as well.

1. Do you have pics from any other angles?
2. Will the clip hold an iPhone with a cover?
3. Do you recall the exact product numbers for the clip and the holder?

Thanks!

1. I don't have any other pics but rest assured the fit is perfect.
2. The mount that I got is for an iPhone without a cover, but ProClip does make one that will work with a cover.
3. Just go on their website and you can find the stuff there

You can't use the mapping function that way.

You are really going to like it.

Side note: if you don't want to hardware your radar detector (if you have one) you can feed the cord through the proclip system and it stays out of the way and actually works incredibly well...the picture I have above only shows it hooked not passed through but you get the idea.

My V1 is plugged in to the cigarette lighter. But the pro clip might clean up the routing a little...

ProClip finally installed. First impression is VERY positive. Nice, solid holder, in exactly the place I wanted it mounted. Still fine-tuning the routing of the AUX cable, but I think this mount is a winner.

nice man, forgot to mention in regards to the routing of the radar detector...i have a 2012 so the 12v is all the way in the back of the console where the iPod hookup is. That is why the routing through the space where the proclip sits works perfectly.

1) It looks better than ANY pro-clip installation I have ever seen.
2) It looks 100% in place in the 1-series, due to the bezel (My 3-series isn't so lucky, but it still looks much better than pro-clip, my pics aren't the greatest.
3) The install isn't super-easy but makes it look better than the "clip-on" solutions AND the functionality is worth the effort.

Reasonable minds may differ.
