My BMW 1 Car Multimedia setup (iPad Mini)

Hi all,

I want to share my multimedia setup in my 1 Series, because its working very well:

This is an iPad Mini attached to the sunglass compartment with Velcro. The iPad mini is customised for the car by using additional software trough jailbreaking. It automatically starts Apps of your choice when the car starts (bluetooth gets connected), like Spotify and TomTom. By using Activator commands (or by asking Siri ) you can switch between apps trough the Satechi Bluetooth Multi-Media Remote Control beside the steering wheel. For example 3 taps on the home button and you're in your favorite navigation App. Hold the Volume up button and you're back in the Music App. The screen illumination is customised using the tweak f.lux (available on Cydia), so it doesn't hurt your eyes at evening/night.

Here you can see the Satechi Bluetooth Multi-Media Remote Control sticked with Velcro just aside the the right of the steering wheel, for convenient use.

The sound is connected through a bluetooth receiver, the Belkin CarAudio Connect AUX with Bluetooth® (http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F4U037). I've tested several receivers out, this one has the best sound. It comes close to a cable It is positioned on the right side next to the cup holders, same spot as the BMW connect button. When you tap the receiver, Siri gets invoked.

This is the remote I use to stay away from the iPad Mini screen as much as possible (http://www.satechi.net/index.php/sat...remote-control)

The speakers (front and back) are the MB Quart QM100 BMW. Specially made for the non-standard BMW format. (http://caraudiosecurity.com/mb-quart...w-1-3-5-series)

The subwoofer is a Pioneer TS-WX610A (http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25...610A/page.html) sticked with Velcro in the trunk. If you have a spare tire, it can easily fit into it. Saving you room. Sounds nice for the price you pay

Here is a better image of Velcro tape: http://www.bigposters-store.com/cata...cro%20Tape.JPG

If you have any questions, feel free to ask

Love this, very tempted to do something similar with my iPad!

Out of interest, the remote is connected to the iPad with bluetooth, but so is the Belkin?

They are both connected. The remote as an HID device and the Belkin as a Bluetooth (AD2P) audio device.

I shall make a video, to show how everything works

Here is a vid I've made really fast:

The iPad Mini is jailbreaked and uses the following Cydia tweaks (these are the most important ones ):

- f.lux: warm screen colors at night
- Car Mode: Auto starts/stops apps when bluetooth gets connected/disconnected.
- Googiri: Route Google Search queries to Siri
- NowNow: Google Now instead of Siri
- SpotiPlay: Set Spotify as default music player
- AssistantEnhancer: Siri tweaks, like play music in Spotify and navigate with the navigation app of your choice.

Looks nice. You need to add torque to your mini, however.

Did you have the ipad connected to the 12V socket of the car? or do you use an special connector so you can plug and unplug easily.
Very good job, congrats

I charge it when I'm home. The battery lasts a day when I use it intensively. In rare situations I charge it with a 12V socket USB charger

I feel like some aftermarket company should make a dock that fits in that compartment space, would be great.

Hey which wifi module do you use? I bought a cheap bluetooth one for ~$10 but it does not work with dashcommand, have you used an ELM?

Also in regards to your 'activator commands' can you elaborate, do these occur when the mini is powered on or when it comes within range of the BT module? I originally was going to use an airport express and use airplay for sound but I do not like having to activate it every time it connects to my cars 'wifi' network.

I bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vehicle-ELM3...item2c7221cff5

And I use the following activator commands (with the remote):

- 3x pressing home button switches to my favorite navigation app (Waze)
- Long press volume up to my music app (Spotify)
- Long press volume down to my speedtrap alert app

I use the CarMode tweak from Cydia to activate 2 apps when it gets connected to the Bluetooth module. This tweak also closes the apps when Bluetooth gets disconnected.

I've replaced the compartment with the following one: 65-90-2-210-773

It now even fits better the car interior

Here is a pic (Not my car):

I will make new photos soon.

Please help me! This is exactly what I want to do.. but I just dont know how to keep the ipad mini in place inside the sunglasses compartment - how did you do it? I know you used velcro, but did you attach it to a stand or case?

The video doesn't work You're the only person that I've seen who's actually done this mod. PLEASE help!

Thanks!
