Attach one side of the Velcro tape on the case, the other on the part you want to make it stick on.

I've replaced the Belkin bluetooth receiver with the Kinivo BTC450. It had better sound and connects automatically.

And a recent (better) picture:

And that's what you did in the first photo? Surely there's limited space to place the Velcro for a secure enough fit? Unless you have super super strong Velcro I don't see how the iPad won't be flopping all over the place. I thought you must of mounted it on some sort of stand?

This is the Velcro I use, it keeps the iPad in place rock steady. On the first picture I had a thin strip on the edge of the flap of the sunglass compartment:

Alright thanks for your help. I may just replace the whole compartment like you did. Is it a genuine BMW part? How much does it cost?

Thank you.

I wanted to share my own approach of integrating the iPad Mini into the 1er.
I borrowed the the original idea of the author and also replaced the compartment. I also use the Kinivo Buetooth transmitter and the same Bluetooth remote (Satechi) and it works perfectly. I even use most of the above mentioned Cydia Tweaks like f.lux, CarMode and some Activator functions.

The difference is how I managed to secure the iPad. I used a Brodit iPad Mini mount (I replaced the Brodit badge with an M-Badge (so it might be a BMW original part ) and attached it to a custom made metal plate which is attached to the backside of the compartment. There is also an additional hole for a future charging cable. The mount is adjustable and I can easily take the iPad out, plus its got the perfect height and distance for the driver.

Another nice bonus is that I can actually use the camera which perfectly covers the street in front of you.

Here are some photos and thanks again for the inspiration

Hi, here is an update on my Bluetooth receiver. I'm now using the MPOW Streambot One.

Available here:

http://www.amazon.com/Streambot-Blue.../dp/B00KR14QR0

Small review

- Connects to 2 devices simultaneously. Works perfect with switching between devices. Music on the iPad stops when there is a call incoming on the iPhone. Automatically detects if a device has a call or wants to output music.
- Automatically connects two both devices on power on
- Superb music quality. On par with the Belkin CarAudio and better than the Kinivo BTC450
- Great microphone, Siri can hear my voice when driving with the roof and windows open. Better than the Belkin and Kinivo.
- There is a small popping sound (low frequency) when switching between devices. Nothing major.
- The volume of calls on the iPhone is slightly low, so I have to turn the volume up on the head unit when I get a call.
- Great price

Nice work!

I've just purchased the nav tray from BMW and will be doing this shortly!

Might get the Brodit holder as well and instead of screwing the metal bracket into the tray, i'll make a quick release mount for it. Maybe even a magnetic holder?

Although, a cheaper alternative than installing a double DIN and alternative to hacking away at your dash. I still prefer my double din.

European cars have a storage compartment on the dash if they don't have idrive. U. S. cars do not. There is a thread, I think it is in the DIY section, about adding this compartment to a U. S. car. I think the other tray they are using is the one sold for the BMW portable GPS installation. It fits into the same cutout as the storage compartment.

I've thought about the storage retrofit but not done it, yet.

I need help!! I have been following this mod for SO long! It is a must for me because I do not have nav, did not come with any dash mounted bin and my BASE sound rubs salt in the wounds. Everyone in this post has such a great ipad mini set up and I am very envious.

All I have been trying to order is the ACTUAL Tray/Bin that gets mounted into the dash. (yes I have already have the template to cut in to the dash )

in the past 3 weeks I have purchased the following..

65900445989 .. does not have the tray/bin
65900445990 ..does not have the tray/bin

This is the exact part # i am looking for...

65 90 2 210 773

If anyone knows how/where I can order this please let me know. I have already bought the bluetooth hook-up, custom mounted clips & I even bought an ipad mini hah..

Let me know if you can find anything.

- Googiri: Route Google Search queries to Siri
- NowNow: Google Now instead of Siri
- SpotiPlay: Set Spotify as default music player
- AssistantEnhancer: Siri tweaks, like play music in Spotify and navigate with the navigation app of your choice.

I received my mounts and ipad mini holder in the mail! I am just waiting for the dash compartment. (eeekk excited) While I wait I jailbroke my ipad and installed those apps. I have 1.7.2, and AssistantEnhancer didnt work. Does anyone know something similar to it that works on iOS 7.1.2?

It's been about a week now since I completed the mod, and I have to say i'm loving it!

Cut and installed without a problem and now looking at jailbreaking the iPad as well as purchasing a streambot+remote.

Have been preoccupied as of late reading up on NCSExpert but will get around to it!

Thanks again for the inspiration Tezzi!

Here are some photos!
