Dinan warranty?
Say I buy the Dinan tune, and a year or two down the road I blow a turbo, or have a related failure. What are the chances BMW will say its from the tune, or simply not touch the car because it has an aftermarket tune and give me a hard time honoring the factory warranty. Then Dinan says its not because of the tune, could this be a likely scenario if there were such a failure?

Dinan and BMW have a pretty close relationship. While the shop may raise the fact that its a tune, you have the warranty from Dinan. If the shop gives you flak, talk to Dinan.

That's the whole point of the Dinan warranty. If BMW denies a claim because of Dinan software, Dinan covers it. I speak from experience. It was hassle free.

For the best performance gain per dollar spent look for a different system.

Bring your ride to a BMW Service center who is a Dinan Installer.
That simple!

Cob would be my first choice, not sure that they work on my car. I have just been reading about how dealerships are refusing to fix dct problems because of aftermarket intakes and exhausts, and I dont want to have problems. I will most likely wait till the warranty expires but may just get the dinan tune if I have some money burning holes.

If you have Dynan and damage your turbos BMW won't cover it because you have an after market tune.
Dynan is supposed to fix your car. Not sure if they require you to send it to a dynan dealership or any bmw dealership.

In this particular situation, I believe what will happen is BMW and Dinan will point fingers till someone accepts responsibility for the damage (doesn't matter who's fault it is or if there's no fault between them at all) and you could wind up paying for it. This is the risk you take modifying a car. It will start like this: BMW will point at Dinan's tune as the problem that caused the turbos to blow up (whether they're young or old) and Dinan, in turn, I guarantee will require proof that their tune blew up the turbos from BMW. Thus will begin the battle and you know how it could end. You just never know.

There's an awful lot of speculation in this thread on both sides, just as there is each time Dinan is brought up.
I've heard horror stories, but my personal experience has been great. I happen to have a good relationship with my SA at the BMW dealer at which I bought the car used (in fact she referred me to Dinan, which is a local company for me ), and had a few engine-related repairs done (as well as continued factory maintenance) even with a few Dinan parts and a tune. The one thing I can say with certainty is that it's probably a good idea to check with local BMW dealerships and/or Dinan beforehand. |
