Bilstein HD with Eibach Pro Springs

I am looking to install Bilstein HD shocks and Eibach Pro-Kit Springs with 12mm Front/10mm back spacers. Is anyone running this set-up? Any reasons why I shouldn't do it. I want improved handling, aesthetics, and eventually replace the stock wheels with a 19" set.

Let me know what you think...

There is no difference in shock stiffness between Bilstein HD and Sports. Just that the Sports are designed to work at a lowered ride height (ie with lower'd springs). You should buy the Bilstein Sports.

Btw... just FYI this website always has great deals on shocks/springs. www.shox.com I have bought from them a few times in the past.

Thanks for your input!

It seems that every site I go to they only sell the Bilstein HD shocks for the 135i.

bringing a post back from the dead...

I've replaced my runflats and I'd like to change my dampers and keep stock M sport springs, but I've heard that Bilstein HDs raise the ride height about 5mm. I've also read that Bilstein Sports are the same stiffness as HDs but are meant for lower vehicles. Does this mean that the sports will keep stock height, or maybe a smidge lower?

From my understanding dampers do not play much into ride height, springs control that. A shorter damper can handle a shorter spring without compromising integrity over the long run.

Normally, you're correct. That's a product of the spring. But Bilstein HD are high-pressure gas, which inherently increase your effective spring rate a bit, SLIGHTLY raising the height.

To the previous poster, it's not 5mm, MAYBE a slight raise, but not much. Here's my car on 17s, so that makes it seem higher than it is. It's really just about at stock ride height.

BTW: Love the Bilsteins. May make me convert from Koni yellows.

I don't think the Bilstein's really raise your car... I think its more that your old shocks are so worn out that your car is sitting lower, then when you replace the shocks the ride height is higher.

When I switched to Blistein HD's with my stock shocks on my e36... the car's ride height was higher... but after a few weeks... it went down to where it was before.

Thanks guys. After some more research I'm thinking about ordering the BMW Performance springs separately and ordering a set of Bilstein Sports to match them with.

I really don't want to drop the car more than 0.5" and a good set of coilovers are out of my price range.

Has anyone experimented with this setup?

Hi cbl117
I installed BMW PS springs with Bilstein B8 dampers about 3 months ago on my 125 - link:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...125+suspension

I am happy with the handling and (to my eyes) near perfect drop / appearance, but the trade off is rather firm ride on less than smooth roads. That said, ditching the (current) RFT tyres may be all it needs to take the edge off the stiffness. I guess it depends on your priorities.
