EFI Logics Custom Tuned Stage 2 335ix

Yesterday we custom calibrated a customer’s 2009 335ix automatic using the Cobb Accessport. The car gained a massive +62whp and +100 wtq at 14psi peak boost over the stock baseline map on 93-octane pump gas!

As previously stated, the car is a 2009 335ix automatic with less than 30,000 miles. The only power modifications consisted of an intake and downpipes. Per the customer’s request, we tuned the car for 93-octane pump gas, sharpened the throttle and calibrated the car taking into consideration the specific modifications that were made. AFRs, ignition timing and all critical engine parameters were adjusted to optimize power potential while ensuring safety. We are very impressed considering this 335ix only has minor bolt-on modifications, it's still utilizing the factory intercooler and it has substantial drivetrain loss being that it’s an all wheel drive, automatic vehicle. That being said, with all four tires clawing at the pavement you can surly expect this 335ix to throw you into your seat upon request with all of that power and torque on tap! An enlarged intercooler core would help keep the charge air intake temperatures down and enable the N54 to produce even more horsepower with more aggressive calibration.

Here are some photos of the meticulously clean and tastefully modified 2009 335ix on the dyno along with a video of one of the pulls.

What are the differences between the off the shelf map and the custom tune?

In terms of power output or the actual map itself? I cannot say for sure how much each individual car will gain from custom calibration, but I can tell you that it's significant. It just takes all of the variables that are otherwise set taking into consideration a very broad spectrum of drivers and hones them into to your driving style, fuel type, modifications and so on.

My 135i picked up 28whp and 40wtq over the Cobb Stage 1 Aggressive V301 map.

I meant on this car. Comparing stock to tune and a few bolt ons doesn't really hold much weight in here. Good gains, but most people are interested in how much the custom tune contributed. As the custom tuning game starts up in regards to Cobb, it would be nice to know what each car gained with the added expense of a custom tune. Nice to know that you guys are around, even if it's not just down the street for some us...

Sure, I understand. The owner was running the stock map beforehand as I believe he came from a dealer earlier and so that's what we used as the baseline. We will be tuning a stage 2+ 1M soon so I will try to make sure that we capture the gains over the OTS map for you. We offer remote tuning services as well, just in case you were interested.

Question regarding this tune.. What did the car do with the stock tune vs efi re-tune? Cause the numbers seem in line with the stock Cobb stage 2 no?

EFI's dyno reads really low. Mustang Dyno's generally do.
I know lots of Subaru owner's who get tuned on the EFI dyno, it is a definitely a heartbreak dyno in terms of numbers. The same car on a Dyno Dynamics or a Dynapack would read a lot higher.

Just to give you an idea, Bren, EFI's arch-rival, tuned a stock 135i with only BMS drop in filter on a Dynapack yielding 365whp and 365wtq, using the custom OE tune - just an ECU flash. A custom tune will definitely get you better numbers.

Definitely interested in seeing a comparison between the OTS Stage 2+ and the custom tuned map.

Dyno dynamics read low also. Dynojets are the glory pull kings for sure. I'm more interested in the delta between the stage 2 map and a custom tune on the same car, same dyno, same day and same dyno setup. Slight position differences on the dyno will change the numbers as well.

I will try to get this data for you guys with the next N54 we custom calibrate. Power gains over the OTS map will vary from car to car and will depend upon a number of variables. For example, if you tell us you consistently use high quality 93 octane fuel from Shell every time you fill up then we can calibrate your car taking that into consideration. If you tell us you travel a lot and may come across inconsistent fuel quality every now and then we will design the maps to be more dynamic/conservative so your car isn't at risk if you encounter bad fuel. We are going to build a custom "race" map for my 135i so that I can safely push the car hard during HPDE and Autox without fear of it being harmed. We will be exploring 100 octane race fuel for that map and we may possibly even look into E85 for my 135i or for Chris' 535ix.

Would love to see what results you get from an E85 tune.
