Indicate the last 7 characters of any VIN of a BMW car ("Submit Query") and you get a complete list of all the production specifications (production date + production plant + standard equipment + optional equipment). You can also save the datasheet as PDF.

Check yours. It is 100% accurate.

I just did and I re-confirm, accuracy 100% indeed. Great post Artemis

I agree with SickFinga; The number should be taken from the production day and not the VIN. This because in some cases a lower VIN can be finishied 2 month after the one right after.

As an example I give you two BMW 540i/6 E34: BJ12571 made 1995-01-30 it's #623 out of 797 made and BJ12572 made 1994-12-01 is #551.

It's the same with last M5 E34 Touring which is BL01939 it's made 1995-08-28, BL01941 is made an month earlier 1995-07-28 and the highest VIN BL01943 is made 1995-07-27.

The first M5 E34 Touring BL01001 is made 1992-03-04 but the first VIN BL01000 is made 1992-03-05.

If you own the first made of a model you wont get pleased if it's not classed as #1.

So please change the order, otherwise it's no point to have a order.

Best Regards Stephan

In a lot of cases a higher VIN predates lower VIN by weeks, so a earlier month for a higher VIN happens more often than you think.

It's a normal pre-production car, built on 2010-09-23. I don't know where you got your data or what kind of access you got, but you can ran that VIN on any VIN decoder site or even at realoem to get year and production month.

VP75907 has options:
S991A PRE-SERIES MANAGEMENT
S9ACA Camouflaged pre-production vehicle

On top of that the car was never registered in North America.

All press cars are later sold to public. Pre-production cars are sometime sold to public.
http://www.bmwmregistry.com/detail.php?id=8911
http://www.bmwmregistry.com/detail.php?id=1841

According to your list, car VP75952 is a US car with production #14.
This is incorrect, VP75952 is a Canadian pre-production car that, to date, was never registered.
You also list VT47835 as the last US car, however VT47840 was also built in US-spec configuration in November 2011.

According to my data, there were 222 Canadian spec cars built. 3 were pre-production models and 6 were press cars. VP75907 was a pre-production press car.

761 cars were built in US configuration. 11 were pre-production and 6 for press.

I'm not attacking you, only trying to help. The only thing I can say for sure is that there is no right way. Cars that are actually numbered (M540i, Eurospec M3 for Canada) do not use any system. I believe BMW slaps those # randomly when a batch of cars is made. I used the same system to calculate production # as you, but after looking at over 500 different models I realized that is not the best system. I believe the actual date when the car is completed is its "birthday" and not the sequence when VIN was created. In some cases VIN are made, but cars do not actually get built.
However, like I said, BMW doesn't use any system to make a concrete case.

Yes actually. Do you have information regarding VP75902 and VP75904?
In your spreadsheet it says website use for 902 and autoshow for 904. Do you have photos of those cars?

Not changing the order. So far the VIN and the actual production "day" has been consistent. All the colors are entered, some production 'days' as well. The registry is nearing completion. The total # of USA 1M's is consistent with BMW's official count of 740 as well.

Only other request I have is that if it is possible for members to post production "day" using the vin-decoder provided by Artemis.

Thanks again guys!

Just a correction. I am the proud new owner of this VIN and it is BSM, not AW. Here are the details:

1)Short VIN: 76286
2)Country: USA
3)Production Date: 07/13/2011
4)Color: BSM (475)

Feel free to use one of the many VIN decoders to verify.

It hasn't been, that is the problem.

VP75901 - 2010-10-27
VP75905 - 2010-10-26

If you are interested, I can send you the list of production data with dates. The reason why I removed the dates from production data and only left month/year is because BMW has some sort of a bug in their system where it randomly reports incorrect production date. After I got the 1m data I verified the production dates with ETK which only has month/year data. If the date I got from BMW did not match ETK data I would pull the build sheet again. Usually on the second try, BMW would provide the correct date. Anyway, I can not guarantee the correct day, but month/year of my data is verified by two separate sources.

Hi everyone! I just purchased #615 here in Florida. Already loving this little car! I had leased a 2011 135 M-sport convertible and was so bummed when the 1M was no longer produced. As luck would have it, my new baby came up for sale near when my lease was ending.

Chassis number VS96514
Vehicle code UR93
Series E82
Model M Coupe
Body type coupe
Catalog model USA
Production date 2011 / 09

Color: Valencia Orange.

Out of curiosity, what's the last known VIN for Canada? The car I'm picking up has an in-service date of 31 Jan 2012.

Thanks for the heads up. I am 76283.
Typo corrected. Metak was kind enough to PM me the exact number out of 740 back in March.

I saw 47833 at the Home Depot in Fairfield Connecticut on Saturday (11/2/13). Talked with the owner. The car has an interesting background. Supposedly it was a BMW Exec car. It ended up with a few bullet holes in it at the port. Shipped back to Germany for repairs. Eventually sold to this owner. He and his family had bought 25 or so BMWs so the dealership liked them and they got the car (VO with nav as best as I could see). He said about 10,000 miles on the clock. It was on a New York registration/plates (I took a pic of the NY reg sticker plus I gave hime my card).

As I typed this, maybe the order was goofy. Maybe this is how it went:
Shipped to NJ Port and received "special edition" bullet holes. More work than the port wants to address and ship back to the motherland. Shipped back to the BMW exec, and then retailed when it went out of BMWNA's hands (silly exec should have held on to it!).
