1 Series vs 1M Series
Disregard this question. Sorry to bother you.
What are the major differences between the two? Last edited by sochermit; 04-15-2013 at 09:04 AM.. |

Ok, so maybe not technically the wheelbase as the hubs are (to my knowledge) in the exact same relative locations - but the 1M's flared fenders mean that it has different offset wheels so the contact patches on the ground are further apart.

The 1M looks like a 135 with flared fenders but it has the wheels, suspension and brakes from the M3 with competition package. The wheelbase is the same but the track is different. The rear end is a mechanical lock up instead of the electronic setup of the 135i. The motor of the 1M is the n54 from the 135i but with the BMW chip change to boost power. There is an extra oil cooler to deal with the extra power. The 6M transmission is the same, I believe, including all the gearing. Interior of the 1M is 135 except for contrasting stiching, I believe.
To me the hard thing to replicate is all the suspension bits including the rear end. It would be easy to get equivalent or greater hp. Much harder to get the better rear end and the rest of the suspension of the M3. Jim

If you can find one for sale and a decent price and/or mileage or willing to pay whatever it is they are going for then get it if you want a limited production car in the US.
But it's really a different car than the 135i. N54 with a bit of boost bump for a tad more power, LSD ( I believe), handles way better for the M parts it has and quad exhaust. Interior has some differences like alcantara peices, M dashboard and I'm not sure on what else was different on the interior. |
