Found in my (new to me) engine yesterday while replacing eccentric shaft sensor. All new bolts present in the VANOS, looks like they didn't find the missing one when they changed them out.

Has anyone gotten this repaired under the recall yet?

Nope. I'm still seeing that a remediation is not yet available. They're probably working through the 5/6/7-series first, since those owners are considered higher value by BMW leadership for customer retention. I'm guessing that we'll be tail-end Charlie for getting this fixed; hopefully the fix arrives quickly.

I call about once a month and am told it's not available yet. I've seen posts of ppl having it taken care of tho. BMWNA is super inconsistent. I think it's a dealership relationship thing, I dunno.

patiently waiting for my turn... i've already performed the recall myself (before it was an official recall) and was denied reimbursement a year or two ago. now that it's an official recall (again) I'm hoping to at least get my parts reimbursed. fingers crossed.

Here in Canada parts have been available for several months. Got a call from the Dealership over the winter but car was already in storage. Once the weather around here stabilizes I'll make the appointment. I inquired about the fix and they said all bolts will be replaced whether loose or not. Any loose bolt will mean replacement of the whole unit. Also means an new valve cover gasket (not leaking yet ), so one less thing to worry about.

Update: Recall done. No loose or broken bolts but all bolts replaced anyway. Bonus was a new valve cover replaced under the recall as corrosion of some bolts caused damage to the valve cover during removal. Saved me about $1000. ( O.E. valve cover here is $750. + tax+labour) . Not often you walk away from the dealership feeling like a winner, thanks Elite BMW, Ottawa.

I'm guessing it doesn't affect 2009 or older models, at least not my build date anyway-06/2009.

Hello , new to the forum and to my 2011 128i convertible. The service engine soon light came on and I took it to the dealer a few days ago. They found the bolts broken. The parts are apparently on allocation, they expect them next week. The car has 95,000 miles on it.

Just a quick update, Dealer called me this morning, and oops, parts not available. They are following up. The car is at the dealer, cannot be driven, the question is how long it will take -- weeks? or OMG Months ??!! They say the should have better info in a few days, I will let everyone know what they say.....

Damn. That sucks. BMW is not doing a great job managing this recall.

Would love to hear more info, if they have it.

My valve cover gasket has been leaking like a sonofabitch every so often, usually after flogging on it for a minute and then coming to a stop. One time there was enough smoke I pulled over and got out because I thought the car may have been on fire (lmao).

But, I keep putting it off waiting for this recall, going on what, like six months now?

I should probably carry an extinguisher in the meantime.
