Have you read the manual and done anything it tells you to do? I had no problems hooking my car up to the bluetooth.

When you turn your bluetooth on with your phone and do a search, does anything come up? Also, do you have Navigation or no?

I don't know anything about why, but some cars don't have Bluetooth audio. Run your car through a VIN decoder to see if you have that feature on your car.

Or look under the trunk floor for the combox with the bluetooth symbol on it.

Just hit the button and pair it like everything else. It doesn't have Bluetooth audio, just hands free calling only.

I was under the impression that hands-free was standard. Normally hitting the phone button on the radio takes to you another menu for that configuration (similar to the sound settings button). I assume the clock and music note button work to modify the radio display? Also I certainly have hands-free but I have not noticed a microphone near the map lights, but I will look again when I get home.

I was digging around online, should I have a microphone up by the map light buttons? If so, I don't....
The microphone is on the top of the steering column between the wheel and the gauges, it's a little slit in the plastic.

Under the trunk floor. You do have to lift up the whole thing.

I cant imagine them putting an M steering wheel in the car and NOT installing the module to use it, that is ridiculous. Is it a plug and play card or module since its apparent the car has the damn buttons?
Good news bad news here. I purchased a 2010 128i with navigation (in 2011), under the impression that it came with bluetooth. Well guess what? No bluetooth. But, there is good news. With coding and a coupe of hours of DIY running wires from the COMBOX and you can add it in.

Search this forum for the retrofit.
