Squeaking front brakes

I just picked up a CPO 2011 135i coupe with 14k miles and the front brakes squeak pretty badly. I brought it to the dealership and they said nothing is wrong and that it's fairly normal for them to squeak. Whether or not it's normal it's definitely annoying.

I read some posts stating to bed the brakes but my assumption (which could be wrong) is this is normally done on new brakes, not older ones. Can anyone offer some guidance?

Thank you.

Garage List
Try changing the pads out. If they're race pads, they'll squeal.

I would take your car to another dealer and ask for the front brakes to be replaced. Brake pads AND rotors for the squeaking.

Generally it is normal bc of the type of pad BMW uses for high speed breaking. But also when the pads get to about half their service life, they really tend to squeal a lot. I think because there is more metal particles in the pad material exposed when half way worn.

Either way... ask for new brakes. Its not a cheap job when uou have to pay for it.... so you might as well see if your dealer can warranty them.

My understanding is that the BMW sport brakes squeal until you really get them warmed up. My brakes were replaced within the last 5000 miles and I was told that it's just the nature of these brakes, unfortunately. I think it's strange, overall, because i've had high performance brakes on plenty of past cars and NEVER had any of them sound like this.

I had a similar situation also. My front right breaks were squeaking so i took my car in for service cause the noise was annoying and embarrassing to me. BMW kinda jerked me around for a minute or two but I was determined for them to take a look see turns out my rotor were warped. You might have the same issue.

My brakes are squeaking really bad. And I would have to agree with dackel here. The computer says I have 7k miles until fronts are due for a change but by visual observation they appear to have worn to about half. I've noticed when braking hard, the squeal becomes more of a loud droning squeal. When light braking its more like a high pitched chirping squeal. I think I will just replace the brakes and rotors anyways.

If your rotors were warped, you would feel a vibration thru the pedal when you hit the brakes.

Brakes squeak because the pads vibrate....take the pads out, smear some Brake Squeal Stop (or similar) on the back of the pads.
