Who will keep their 1er after the warranty?
Alright guys, I know for many the warranty period 4 years or 50,000 miles is a long ways away but based on your experiences so far how many of you will be keeping your 1 after the warranty expires?
If you will be keeping it, how many years/miles/km's do you think you'll hang on to it before changing rides? If you think you'll be getting rid of it please let us know why (if you can) and let us know if you have an idea what car you will get into next. |

I voted that I'll keep mine, but that depends largely on my financial situation, and if there are any other cars on the market that really entice me.
Looking back on my past cars, I've decided that I should have kept most of them instead of trading. Some of them have been great, and turned out to be worth a lot more now than when I traded (like the bone stock 240sx in great condition I traded in on my 318ti Club Sport for about $3k) so I've been thinking I should stop trading and just pay them off and put them away for a while. |

I voted that I will keep my 1er because I have had no problems and love the car after the first 2500 miles. Obviously that could change dramatically in the next 3 yrs 10 months/47500 miles, but as of now, I will say I will keep it well past the end of the warranty period.

I voted that I will keep it but at that time the new 1er will be coming to market so we will have to see how that one turns out...

Can't get in trouble to keep a car after warranty anymore. From other side, new generation of 1 will be in 4 years, and it is tempting to get new 1, sin't it?

As of right now, yes I will keep the car. What happens between now & 2 years 11 months could change my yes to a no. Would love to keep it as a weekend car and make it a track monster, but only time will tell.

I'll keep this car until the engine falls out of it...that the way I am. I'm a packrat and I admit it.

Mockba has a great point - it would be tempting to get into 'another 1" but it's going to be hard to improve on this baby! I may go for a convertible next time - but it may actually make sense to keep her and merely pick up another one. Honestly though - the next logical step is the M3.

I plan on keeping the car at least 8 years. At that point I'll consider keeping it as a second car since its value will be only a few thousand.

With the fuel pump under warranty for 10 years, what are the other risks? I did have a SA tell me that the 50,000 mile or 80,000 km. service is quite expensive - about $4k. I'm not sure what that covers. So - if you don't reach that mileage within 4 years, you will have to pay that yourself.

I may keep my 128i past the warranty, but not likely for long. I love this car but in 4-5 years I don't see a 2-door 'coupe' very practical for myself. I'm also dissapointed in build quality of my 1 compared to say the new 328i's. As much fun as I have and will have in the next few years, I see myself moving to a 328i if for no other reason than the extra doors. This is my first 2-door and I miss having practical access to the back seat. Also, I'm starting to notice noises, vibrations and whatnot when driving that make it feel 'cheaper' than I'd like to admit. I easily see myself being a Bmw driver for life. At 25 years old I'm loving the 1, but I wouldn't buy another 1-series.

i def will not have the car past 45,000 miles. a BMW under full factory warranty sells easily...and at a higher price.
i am sure the car is great well past 50K, but i just don't want the hastle

Upon expiration of the warranty in four years, I'll be trading my 128 (which I haven't received yet) for a new M1 Touring.
Please, please, please, please. |

Mine will be for sale as soon as I pay it off... Assuming they hold their value fairly well. Intentions for my car were to daily drive it, but I came across a winter beater that I couldn't turn down. The car should be <3 years old, <20k miles and still have a year of warranty left on it when that time comes.
My 1er's fantastic, but the urge for something faster always comes along and so far the Z06 and GT-R sit at the top of my list of replacements. If the car doesn't hold decent value, I'll most definitely keep it for the long haul, but will get much more aggressive regarding mods...

I voted to sell. Not that I'd sell out the 1-series, but if it gets updated, who could resist??

You could just invest in an extended warranty if the expiring warranty is the main reason for selling the car.

It's easy to drop $2k for an off warranty BMW service. A friend of mine with a '99 325 recently had it serviced and the bill was $2,500. At 50,000 miles I was told the N54 engine requires some service work that involves timimg belts or something that is quite expensive. I wish I knew, but that is what the SA told me when they were trying to sell me extended warranty. Does anyone know what the actual service schedule is for the 135i?
