First Autocross of the year
Sunday was my first autocross of the year and first event on my new setup. Car was very predictable and a lot more fun to drive. Made some good progress getting the suspension dialed in.
Here's some video of the car on course... A couple of things...
1) That is one of the most open courses that I have ever seen. 2) That is also one of the most well layed out courses that I have ever seen (I mean the white lines) 3) On a lot of the slaloms you are leaving around 8-10 inches between you and the cones. You can get a lot closer, it will help your run times. Other than that it looked like a good time. |

Yah that was at the Nationals site at Lincoln Air Park. There is a lot of space which means lots of fun. We have had faster more open courses out there in the past, I didn't get out of 2nd gear on this one, lots of times I get well into 3rd gear at that site. It was the course designers first course, so he did a great job.
That actually isn't me driving in the video, unfortunately the GoPro camera was occupied for my runs. Though my times were very close to the time from this run. I know I had quite a bit of time I left on course. I spent most of the event adapting to the changes in the way the car handled. Since the last autocross I did, last year, I have added, AST 5200s coilovers and Quaife LSD, not to mention new exhaust, wheels/tires. Now I need to work on the driver upgrade

Any tall people regret going for the coupe?
I won't go as far as regret, but i didn't realize my head would be cocked 20 degrees from my helmet hitting the roof. If it wasn't for the sunroof it probably would've been worse. Obviously if i get to the point of swapping out race seats, i should be low enough to get rid of that issue... |

How tall are you? Do you have the seat as low as it will go?
I'm 6' 4" and don't have any issues, the only thing I don't like is the headrest is awkward with a helmet on, kind of pushes your head forward a bit, but race seats would fix that easy (and save a bunch of weight!) One of the guys driving with me is also about as tall as me and he was surprised with how much head room the 135i had.

I'd have to say the LSD is the best change. IMO BMW should've put one in to begin with!

Also 6'4"....
That's what i meant about regretting the coupe Brokenvert, obviously top down would alleviate it all, as my instructor in his M coupe pointed out. If a vert wasn't more expensive and heavier i think we'd all have one. |

Cool Video! Big, wide open area you have there. I hope to post a video or two after this weekend's Boston Chapter event 1 for 2010. (I cannot wait... the winter seems too long)
