Jack stands and pucks?
Wondering what you guys use when you need to gt under your car. I've heard the use of hockey pucks a lot but am a bit worried
My jack stands have a very shallow V shape to them and the thought of a hockey puck in between the stand and the rectangular mount holding the car up while im under it has me a bit worried.. Also, jacking up one side at a time how does it not slip off?

I use the ECS jack pads: http://www.ecstuning.com/News/E82_E9..._F02_ES251251/
Then I use these ESCO flat top jack stands: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...2520%2520%2520

I discovered that if you remove the ratcheting t-bar from Torin's 2 ton "Big Red" jack stands, the base will fit inside the BMW jack point. While you can't adjust the height, the height of the base alone allows you to change your wheels, remove your exhaust, remove your FMIC, service your transmission, etc. You can pick these up at Pep Boys, Home Depot and just about any other auto parts store for about $25 a pair.

I jack up with a puck on the jack pads, then put hockey pucks on my stands under the pinch welds.
Have not had a problem doing this on any car in the past....., 15 years. |

I put pieces of 3/4 baltic birch plywood into the plastic lifting pockets both for jacking and for resting the car on stands. They work well and took only a few minutes to make. I've seen others comment they use short pieces of rectangular steel tubing.

Cool, I tried some heavy cardboard that I folded over many times and squeezed it in between the stand on the pad. Didn't have an issue but i'll try some of your suggestions as I'd like something more reusable and substantial..

Ordered them online. Sorry, can not remember from where. I do remember I had them shipped to Ogdensburg and picked them up down there.
Edit: I think it was from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/ESCO-Jack-Stan...sco+jack+stand |
