Mercedes-Benz Museum
Mercedes-Benz Museum Mercedes-Benz Museum Mercedesstr. 100 70372 Stuttgart Open daily from 9.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m. tel.: +49(0)711-17 30 000 fax: +49(0)711-17 30 400 Or by e-mail: classic@daimler.com Opening hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays to Sundays Closed on Mondays Day ticket = eight euros http://www.mercedes-benz-classic.com/content/classic/mpc/mpc_classic_website/en/mpc_home/mbc/home/museum/overview_museum.html The Mercedes-Benz Museum is one of those MUST SEE places. It is one of the crown jewels of automuseums in Germany. Although I am really not a MB guy… I am always amazed on the diversity of vehicles that MB produces. The museum literally has, planes, cars, trucks, busses, racecars and (1)motorcycle! The new museum was opened in 2006. These pictures were taken just two months after the opening. I really ought to go back for a new visit. The new museum is located not really in Stuttgart but rather in Untertürkheim – a suburb of Stuttgart. The museum is just down the street from the Porsche Messe and the MB Stadium (soccer stadium) and the (http://www.wilhelma.de/ ) zoo in Bad Cannstadt. Back in the old days – you had to take a special bus into the MB factory gates/compound. Now, MB has built a museum just outside the factory gates. No more prying eyes into the factory. It was always cool to spot a prototype driving around the compound. Well… now you just have to look harder for one. One thing that sets the Mercedes-Benz Museum apart is that not only do they have a first class museum. But they also have their new car delivery pickup next to the museum AND they have one heck of a used car showroom for all the executive demos for sale there too. Btw… MB also has another used car hall that holds over 4K cars under one roof, on the B14, just down the street from Kelly Barracks. Inside the MB Museum it has a very cutting edge feel to it. Straight out of set of iRobot. From the bullet elevators to the bare concrete walls – it has a future “feel” to the museum. Onto my photos… Enjoy, Dackel MB Museum… New car delivery… Inside the museum… Bullet elevators… I liked that MB chose not to hide their past achievements… This tranporter was recreated by hand, only from drawings and some diagrams. What a job they did! A slightly newer MB car carrier… Jurassic Park… Pope mobile… Prototype display… And to end on a high note… End. |

I would recommend the MB Museum to any car guy. It really is an interesting place. Lots of cool stuff. I would say that every car nut should come to visit this museum - MB fan or not. You just can not walk away from this museum with respect for MB products.

Ringo Starr's Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3 AMG
Ringo Starr's Mercedes Benz 190 E 2.3 AMG that is in the Museum was advertised for sale years ago in the UK in a magazine called “Auto trader” for about £5000.
A standard second hand 2.0L 190E back then was around £4000, I didn’t think it was that special to justify the extra £1000. How wrong I was. The AMG up-grades that were included are 'wide body kit, 2.3-litre engine, 8"x16" alloy wheels, exhaust system, lowered suspension, boot badge and steering wheel and it had an automatic transmission. |

Hah! Thats funny. Well... we all have stories of that one car that got away from us! They also had Arnold Schwarzenegger's MB S-class(2001 nodel - I think) completely tuned American style by Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories! Lets just say it was kind of raunchy right down the the chrome plated chain link lic plate! It still had Cali tags on it too.

Yes, lots of cool places to visit in Stuttgart of Automotive fame. Here are a few off the top of my head... Porsche Museum and Factory in Zuffenhausen Attachment 1270240 Attachment 1270239 Attachment 1270244 Porsche Museum Porscheplatz 1 70435 Stuttgart www.porsche.com/museum/en/ Porsche Museum (left) Porsche Zentrum (straight ahead)... Attachment 1270241 Porsche Zentrum Stuttgart (across the street from the Museum) they also sell ALL the Porsche Design "stuff" plus there are many Museum cars on display inside this factory run dealership. Porsche Werk 1 Attachment 1270245 And this is what it looks like today... Attachment 1270246 Porsche Werk 1 (the first offices of Porsche KG after WWII. Later on Porsche's Race Dept was located here. Today its home for Porsche Exclusive and a VIP service and parts dept. Last time I was inside here... I saw SEVEN 959's... two with US plates(!) being serviced!!! You can always try your luck with the Porsche Gate Gaurd... tell them you need to go inside to order some parts for your Porsche... most of the time he will let you inside! Porsche's Family Estate... (Ferry Porsche in pic) Attachment 1270247 Attachment 1270248 The house today... Attachment 1270250 Peter Porsche(I think?) Attachment 1270251 Porsche's Family Estate -it's not open to the public but one car drive by it! I think Ursula Porsche still lives there. This is where Ferdinand and Ferry built the first few Beetle(KdF) Volkswagens at for Hitler's people's car program. Porsche Family Haus Feuerbacher Weg 48 - 50 Stuttgart https://www.google.de/maps/place/Feu...c699cf15?hl=en Speaking of the Porsche Race Dept... the famous picture of all 25 prototype 917's lined up for FIA inspection. In order for Porsche to race at LeMans, Porsche built 25 race cars for sale to anyone who wanted one(or could afford one and knew about them!)... Ferrari cried foul bc there was no way Ferrari could built a series of 25 cars in order to run a homologated race car series. Attachment 1270256 Attachment 1270257 Today you can STILL drive by this spot and see MANY Porsche's parked on the left side - ready for export to all over the world. Some things never change. Instead, underneath it Porsche has a huge underground storage and rail system that moves sub assemblies from one factory(werk) to another among the sprawling Porsche Werks. A little trivia... The Reutter Werk building was last used for 928S4 and GTS production. Then the Audi RS2 and MB 500E's were built here in the mid to late 90's. Then Porsche converted the factory to a parts depot.
