My ED 323i ZSP was 2k more than the high end Accord & Camry when I bought it in 99, the maintenace costs have been negligible, and it has better resale. What a great car; the 2.5l inline has got to one of the best engines ever. Bulletproof quality. 33 mpg highway (fast).
It's much easier to make the value case this time because the competition is a hybrid Accord. An ED 325 is less expensive to buy, the maintenance costs are lower, and the resale is higher. Even the total cost of a 330 is close to the Accord over a 5-year period provided you do not get many options. And the fun differential? Priceless!
Guess I should retire and start a new career with BMW marketing, specializing in 'convincing the spouse' tactics.

In addition to stressdoc's recommendation, some dealers have an ED specialist. I did my ED through Dave Parker at Stevens Creek BMW in San Jose, CA. There is a list of salespeople who are familiar/experienced with ED on the bimmerfest site in the ED forum. Salespeople who don't do a lot of EDs are often misinformed about the program and run the risk of botching your order. Not a pleasant thought to encounter a mistake when you arrive at the delivery center in Munich.

I have 3.5 good road days to get from Munich to Frankfurt. Any guidance on what is preferable Garmisch and the Alps to the south then Augsburg/Rothenburg. Or slowing down through Augsburg/Rothenburg and then to East to Stuttgart maybe southern Rhineland to Frankfurt??

I know this is less ordering info and more planning? Maybe our fine benefactors would set up a home for the actual touring of ED???

Everyone has their personal favorites; I love to get into the Italian alps, e.g. go south through Garmisch-P towards Bolzano, then west and eventually back north to Vaduz, tool on the Autobahn to Augsberg. Austria is magnificent driving but the limits are a pain. I feel much freer on the roads in Italy and Germany. 3.5 days is a lot of time if you want to drive, rather than go to museums, sit in coffee shops etc. You could get to Frankfurt in 3.5 hours if you go direct. You are within striking distance of Vienna, Prague, Berlin, ...
The list members living in Germany and others with experience traveling the environs around Munich could make a really useful resource for ED; I suggest a string on ED travel, that would have links to the wonderful travelogs that have already been posted. There really is a difference driving your own car as compared with the normal tourist experience. We love to drive, and there are some spectacular places to drive in europe. Not going to find what you need easily from Fodor. I would guess that is partly why BMW & Porsche, et al, make such great cars. If you have Navi then you are well equipped to freelance.

Thinking about doing ED next year but several concerns and questions:

1) Read some posts ago in this thread that ED will supposedly be hindered after approximately 6 months as the "new" E90 models begin to settle into the market, thus lowering demand and thus making ED sales people to become more demurred in accepting offers of say, $1,200 above ED invoice. After 6 months, will the cost savings of ED compared to domestic delivery be relatively unchanged? I saw on BMW's ED webpage a listing of savings and they even included 2005 models with modest savings, relative to the 2006 E90 models.

2) Anybody know of any great websites for me to do some research/planning for a vacation (1-2 weeks) in Europe? My girlfriend is coming along with me for this ED, and I'm looking forward to planning a nice trip. We're hoping to tour across multiple countries, including Germany, Italy, Austria, Czech Repub, Switzerland, France, etc. etc. but we've never been to Europe before, and looking at the maps aren't helping too much. I am not even sure how vast our exploration can be, since of course it depends on how far apart the countries are...from looking at the maps, however, and assuming that the autobahn spans through most of the countries, it's relatively short/fast to get from one place to another! Germany to Paris in 2 hours, anyone?

I am going to Munich already, and would like to Purchase a bmw325cic. It seems like many people are able to bargain with the dealer from 1200-1500 off invoice ED price. My problem is, I don't know what the confid. ED invoice price IS for a a BMW 325cic. Any help on where to get this data would be awesome!! side note: when will the 2006 BMW 325 cic's be available?

For MSRP and invoice (wholesale) ED prices look at the first post (page 1) of this string. In regard to the e92 (coupe), we do not know the precise date or price. It may not be available by next summer. Check other strings on this list for info on the E92.

Getting an ED when you have a 'free ride' to Munich is a great value and fun besides. Hope to be in Munich myself getting a new E91 or E90 335i in July 2006.

As per my note, the 325ci aka E92 coupe has not been released yet, in either hardtop or convertible. We do not know when they will be available, and we do not know how much they will cost. But we nevertheless have a good time guessing...

I think mchief is probably talking about the 2005 3 series convertible. If you can do an ED on that model, and you are looking for the ED pricing, you will probably have to go somewhere that has e46 pricing. Please try Bimmerfest.com. They have forums for almost all the BMW models and generations

You can try bmwusa.com and click the ED section. They have ED MSRP, so figure the invoice about 2500-2800 below the MSRP roughly. But I think you meant 1200-1500 over ED invoice and not 1200-1500 off ED invoice because that would be a tremendous deal.

Well you still have to pay for any options that you spec, the sales tax and reg/lic fees.

I have a pickup date of Sept 12, and am still juggling the itinerary. I know I want to go to Rothenburg and Salzburg, see the Ludwig castles and just get go with the flow. I am thinking that Baden-Baden and the black forest is within reaching distance, but I think I might start to strech my time a little too much. Is Baden-Baden and the black forest a must see? Is the drive a memorable one?

There are too many "must sees" in Bavaria and environs. Your plan to go with the flow is an excellent one. Doing Austria first is a good plan, because you will have to drive slow. Might as well break in on the 120kph limit roads. I think the windy alps roads are fun, but some people tire of the ping-ponging. So you could do Salzburg and then cruise by G-p and over to Bregenz - Konstanz and up to B-B. Take the little roads if you like that sort of thing, or go via Innsbruck if you prefer to cruise.
