et45 rear alloy on E88 msport ?

First post here so a big Hi to you all from the uk ! looking for a bit off advice, got a 2012 built 120D msport E88 convertible here and looking to change tho stock 17" alloys to a nice shiny set off 18" csl reps. I am looking for a staggered set up so it would be 8.5" front and 9.5" rear. problem is these particular alloys I am looking at come in with an et40 front and et45 rear which for some reason so many alloy wheel retailers over here in the uk say wont work on the one series rear ie. will cause rubbing hence the reason the et45 version is never listed as being able to fit the car.

one retailer did say it would fit but quote " the et45 would fit on the rear but will just look sat in and not look the best they can do with a lower offset "

would be running 225/40 front and 235/40 rear tyre.

so okay anyone who runs an msport E88 convertible or coupe running stock msport suspension able to confirm or deny the above ?

the wheel is the Zito 935

thanks.

I haven't personally ran ET45/9.5" rear, but I have run an ET40/9" rear which fit perfectly fine.

The extra half inch of rim is ~12.7mm and ET45 vs ET40 would mean it's 5mm closer to your strut, so that means it will stick out 1.35mm further on the outside and would be 11.35mm closer to the strut.

Based on the above and my experience with my ET40 setup (where I was able to run a 255 tire with minor fender work) I would say that it would probably fit fine with a 235/40 tire in the rear, though you may need a small spacer to clear the strut on the inside. Good luck!

Okay thank you so much for taking the time to offer me advice on the subject. Have also now been offered a set off Atomic csl rep alloys in a 19" size. These come in the same rear et45 but have a front et38 would this et38 fit my particular car and if so what would be an ideal tyre set up as to prevent having stretch tyres or having to have the arches rolled etc ?

We typically recommend 18x8.5 ET45 in the front with a 225/40/18 and 18x9.5 ET45 in the rear with a 245-255/35/18 tire.

My local alloy wheel stockist thought an ET45 may cause the tyre to hit the front suspension mount and suggested et40 , also that a 255 rear tyre may cause arch rubbing and that a 245 tyre would require a little stretch on the tyre which I really did not want !!!

anyone here running with such a set up on the E88 help me out, Ned to see just how much stretch we are talking ?

ET40 would work too! 255 may cause issues and require a roll of the fenders. A lot of times it will come down to tire choice. The 9.5" is right at the top of the rim width range for the 245 tire. If you want a 255 tire out back, go with something like an ET50 rear.

Im running a 18X9" ET45 rear, with a 255/35-18, and with a fender roll, I get slight rubbing on full compression. No clearance issues on the strut. Having the extra 1/2" of poke might make clearance tight on the fender side.

If you can get a ET50-60 wheel, you can run a much fatter tire, and then use spacers to achieve the flush look, if you care about that.

Okay looks like unfortunately due to the Zito 935 alloys I am after and the fact that I don't want to go down the route of having the arches rolled etc it's going to have to be an et45 rear with a 245/35 tyre , again running a 120D msport E88 convertible anyone here running such a set up advise just how much off a stretch the tyre will have to have to fit this alloy ? Don't particularly like the idea off a stretched tyre but if it was minimal and did not look too bad would just go ahead, so anyone here running an et45 with 245/35 advise / share any pictures ?

Okay seems the stretch on the 245/35 with an et45 is not too bad and having now seen pictures on the net I am happy enough to go for this. my seller now advises that the a 225 /40 front with the et35 is going to run very flush with the arch, anyone advise if this is acceptable ?

Note that the offset (ET) has nothing to do with how much "stretch" a tire has -- the stretch is a function of the width of the tire and the width of the wheel.

225/40 on ET35 will work fine in the front.

Okay thanks was just a bit worried as the seller did advise that a you could go for the et45 front and use a 5mm spacer to make et40 which would be fine with the 225/40.

so the opinion is 225/40 on an et35 will be very flush to the arch but perfectly fine yep ?

Are you lowered? If yes; how much? If you are lowered on say coilovers you'll need a 215 to fit without rubbing on a 8,5j wide wheel with ET35. You'll also need the ET35 to clear the adjuster ring.

Okay thanks, unfortunately the alloys that I was going to buy are now sold and not sure when new stock will arrive so I have now decided to go for the 18" LRN cyclone alloys which come in an 8" front and 9" rear with an et35 and et40 rear. should be a bit easier with the one series bmw !

has been suggested that on my E88 120D msport convertible running standard msport suspension with no arch mods etc that I will get away with a 225/40 front and a 225/40 rear, was hoping to be able to fit a 245/35 on the rear but just not sure if there would be enough room with the 245 ?

anyone ?

Same deal, depends if you are lowered. If not, it will probably fit.
