What should I be paying for state inspection?

Hi, I'm located in the philadelphia area, and I'm just curious what are you guys paying for a state inspection?

Will a german specialty shop do anything different than a gas station mechanic will (or pep boys, etc.)?

I'm getting mine done at this local german place (because its convenient), and I am getting ripped off by their labor (stupid me, forgot to look it's like $90/hr for labor).

Anyway what are you paying? your responses are very appreciated!

State Inspection fee's are set by your STATE. So it should be the same at the dealer or at joe schmoe's gas station.

Okay, I guess it was the labor that sent the price up

labor for what? IF all you needed was a state inspection, the cost should be the same AT ANY state inspection place/station.

Like back in the day... when I lived in Virginia... state inspections costs 12 dollars. Did not matter IF it was at a Porsche dealer or VW dealer or corner gas station. The inspection cost the customer the same price($12) - all thru out the state. Now IF you had something repaired to pass said inspection... that work will vary in price.

I'm going to clarify tomorrow. I had a problem with my A/C and it probably took them some time to diagnose it.

In PA, state inspection and emissions prices are decided by the shop. For instance, I charge $24.00 labor for the inspection and $2.00 for the sticker. Emissions comes out to $29.95. A shop down the road may be at 15 bucks, or 40 bucks. It all depends. Other states may be different.
