As if that long-ass boat ride wasn't bad enough...

My car got off the boat back on the 21st. Just heard from my dealer. He said it is still at the pre-delivery center and might be there for a few more days. Then finally on a truck for a couple days journey. Then final prep at the dealer.

Last time I ordered, my car was only stuck on the east coast for a few days. Was I lucky last time or am I unlucky this time? I don't know if my body can handle much more waiting.

Knowing that it is within arms reach, sort of, makes the wait worse.

You're right. Just put it on a truck already before I go over there myself and drive off with it.

Unlike other car brands I've bought in the past, it seems BMW does the majority of its traditional "dealer prep" at the port rather than at the dealer. I picked mine up from the dealer same day they got it but it sat at the port in NYC for a few days.

I would imagine that a lot has to be done to a vehicle prior to putting it on a ship and sending it over the pond. Of course then the dealer has to clean it up. I just look at it that I will appreciate it far more when it arrives than if I had just picked one off the lot.

Yeah, I believe when I ordered my E90 back in 2006 it arrived at my dealer late one afternoon and I picked it up the next day. It just didn't spent so much time at the prep center. I guess there were a lot of cars waiting in line ahead of my new one this time.

I have no doubt you are right. I've seen stuff on TV and/or the Internet about how they prep cars for the voyage. And it definitely is more special to order than to buy off the lot. After buying my current 135 off the lot, and as much as I do love my current car, it is just never quite good enough if you don't have it speced out EXACTLY how you want it. Hopefully the wait won't be much longer.

Talking

Just got the call I've been waiting for. My new baby just rolled onto the lot. They will have it ready for me in 90 minutes!!! Fuckin A baby!

And of course, when I called the 800 number not more than two hours ago it said it was still at the pre delivery center. Just goes to show how far behind the website and 800 number can be.

Guess I'll have to change my sig now...
