Post Can the base head unit be replaced with HiFi unit?

Hi Everyone,

Last Week, I purchased a CPO 2011 128i and just realized that I have the base audio system which will not allow for USB audio playback from my iPhone 5. I have to use the Y cable and the sound quality is awful. There is a HiFi system that is available on some vehicles which has the combox and can play the audio just by hooking up the apple cable. Does anyone know if the head base head unit can be swapped out for the HiFi unit?

Thanks

It can but you may need to reprogram car and I believe you will loose the rear speakers.

Does your car have the USB slot between the seats? (6FL, its just above teh cig lighter hole and Aux slot) Or maybe Blue Tooth option? With BT you could stream your music. IF your car has Nav you also have a USB stick in the glove box which you can upload music to(I believe ?).

You could have the "Alpine HiFi kit" installed on your base system. You won't loose the rear speakers. But you need to have the HU coded for the different HiFi output.

What Dack said. It's the same head unit, just programed differently between base and Hi-Fi stereos. I recently did the Alpine upgrade kit and had the stereo reprogramed to Hi-Fi by the dealer.

For a 2011 135i... How can you tell which system you have? I for sure do not have the HK system...But not sure if i have the base base system....or the "HiFi'' system.

I read another thread on here...but they mentioned 2011s came in all 3 configurations?

A bit confused...I would like to upgrade my car but not sure if the Alpine kit will work/is worth it.

If you only have six speakers then you have the base sound system. The next system upgrade is the Hi-Fi system with 8 speakers, adding two tweeters, bigger subs and an amp. The highest upgrade is the HK/Logix 7 system.
