Where to buy subframe inserts?
I am looking to do the much-discussed Whiteline subframe inserts on my e88, but I can't find them in stock anywhere. Anyone know of a seller who might have some who can ship to the East Coast for decent money? I tried to order from a couple of the bigger names, but they were out of stock for 4-6weeks.

Ordering from Australia will incur shipping that is twice the price of the product. I was hoping to get something more local.
I had ordered a set from Amazon, but then was informed that they were out of stock (even though the listing showed that they had a few sets in stock!) Same with ebay. |

From the DIY thread:
http://www.aftermarketsuspensionpart...sp?prod=KDT918 They list them as in stock.

Got mine here, one of the few places that offers the harder "race" version. The base Powerflex are, I believe, the same as the Whiteline, the harder are harder.
No commercial connection, just a satisfied customer. You need a specific set for the front and another set for the rear. http://www.harrisonmotorsports.com/p...2006-2011.html |

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Aftermarketsuspensionparts is Diverse Suspension Technologies, which lists the Whiteline kdt918 in several places, including ebay and Amazon. They are out of stock, awaiting a huge back order, as I was told today when I called them, even though these same listings indicate "In Stock". You don't find out that they don't have them until after you place your order, and then they put you on the "waiting list". I guess I should give up on finding a retailer who has a set in stock who can ship at a reasonable cost. Too bad... Thanks, 128convertibleguy! it looks like this might be my next best option in terms of sticking with inserts. I hadn't even considered using Powerflex, as most posts I read had indicated that Whiteline was an easy install and easy to get a hold of. |

It's exactly the same install with the Powerflex inserts. If Harrison has them in stock they're maybe easier to get a hold of.

So it seems like the actual bushings are out of stock everywhere. Aggravating that nearly every part I've bought for this thing has been backordered to some extent. I've been waiting on bushings since May. Don't want to go through all the work and just put in inserts.

According to BMW, you should replace the (aluminum?) bolts. I guess you could maybe get away without, but that's way too risky for me. I don't work on my car to get away with things, especially on things which hold the wheels in place.
Or maybe you can't get away with not replacing them. See posts 62,64,74, and (especially) 85 in this thread. The bottom line is that someone liked the inserts for a while, and then didn't. Retorquing the bolts helped for a little while. Replacing them seems to be working. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...1033399&page=4 Last edited by 128Convertibleguy; 10-04-2014 at 11:46 PM.. |

You don't ever need to retorque a properly torqued fastener, and you're an idiot if you think those bolts are aluminium.

"Judging by how light they are and appearance I think the bolts are aluminum or magnesium alloy" http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=875885&page=3 As far as "properly torqued" goes, the reason some bolts are one time use, is that they are designed to stretch permanently, and you cannot "properly torque" them more than once. Read the other thread. Someone tried to "properly torque" the one time use bolts a second time after reusing them, and they didn't hold. Last edited by 128Convertibleguy; 10-06-2014 at 12:54 AM.. |

They're light because they're small. It's a standard 10.9 metric bolt, and they aren't TTY, they're TTS. You can reuse them. I don't put a lot of faith in uncalibrated torque devices 99% of the people here use, but I'd still be more inclined to believe the inserts weren't seated correctly vs a bolt torque issue.

But BMW does say they are one time use, only. They're not doing that to sell bolts, they have some engineering reason, and I wouldn't trust anyone here to say they're wrong. Maybe it's because they're exposed to dirt and corrosion. Another reason sometimes is some sort of distorted thread locking mechanism. Whatever, a problem with the inserts was solved by someone replacing the bolts. Not replacing them is cutting corners on critical suspension work. People here worry about a lot less important stuff.
