N54 and N55 have different mid pipes and sound, but they both sound very good with the Performance exhaust, which consists of a y-pipe and a muffler. You could install just one of them and then decide what to do next. That's what I'd do, personally. Look around in the exhaust & engine section, plenty of info there.
I did the golf-tee mod via unplugging the exhaust valve in the trunk. Same result. Quick & easy. Took me 15 min to take out carpets & put everything back. Sound is just slightly louder at startup & take off. Mild change in the cabin rolling around town. For me personally no-drone is key so if I did an exhaust it would be PE or Dinan. One low cost alternative is to have a muffler shop weld up a Y pipe in place of the stock resonator. My concern is creating drone in the cabin though...

I have PE with DCT and get a slight drone when going up hills when in "D", I assume due to car is always in the highest gear possible. However I drive in manual mode about 90% of the time so its not a problem.

I find it pretty loud between two and four thousand rpm's with windows closed.

Not sure if there would be drone with the y pipe and stock muffler and valves closed.

I'm thinking there would be. Honestly the n55 stock exhaust is really good. With the golf-tee mod & the stereo off I do notice it just at startup, take off & up to around 3,000 rpm. Above that it seems same as stock to me. It's a personal taste thing. Slightly different but not drastic.

In stock configuration, the valve opens above 3,000 rpm, that is why.

Full PE drones; y-pipe makes probably the biggest difference, but with the y-pipe + stock muffler you'd at least retain the exhaust valve.

I have the PE with y-pipe and I drive in manual mode 100% of the time (DCT) and don't let the RPMs fall too low (1500 to 2000ish) when cruising so I get no drone to speak of.

Really, if I feel any drone is about to come on I just downshift to raise the RPMs and kill it before it happens. Rarely in 7th gear on the freeway and almost never go past 4th or 5th on the streets. Gas mileage is not very good but I don't care.

Just scored myself a Berk Street from the classified section, will let ya know how it fits this conversation if it doesn't get burnt up on the way through Tennessee....

Bumped the tune up from MHD 1 to the 1+ flavor- goodness it's a nice bump Probably too much for summer around here, but fun in the slightly cooler temps we're getting now.

changed the oil

its been 13 months (ouch) but only 7000 miles and that 7K was mostly all highway. Drain plug very tight even tho I put it in to 25 ft pds. Car going into winter storage so wanted clean oil. Oil filter housing had more oil than I remember so sucked out as much as possible. Car is an 08 with 52K miles. Noticed some sweating and oil residue below oil filter cap looking like coming out of the cap. Not worried-cleaned up and will keep an eye on it. I do tighten cap so 2 green dots align. Battery tender over winter on original battery.

But I'd be more interested a system that sounds mostly stock at low rpm/light throttle, but like the Corsa exhaust at high rpm/WOT. But not add highway drone, be too loud, or cost an arm and a leg.
Is that too much to ask?

And a spare 1er tucked away would be awesome! Anyone have a 1M they want to donate?

Anyway, performed the golf tee mod this morning. Removed hose from actuator and plugged both up with tight-fitting caps. Not enough length to zip-tie the hose to anything, so just tucked it up under a nearby bracket.

I swear it made absolutely no difference!

However, most of what you guys have been describing (deeper, more burbly, a little louder < 3k rpm) I experienced upon installation of the JB Stage 1 several weeks ago. So, I'm thinking they programmed in a flap-override. Though I haven't researched it yet.

Regardless, needed to get 'er ready for a cool, damp, dirty winter. Did the interior last weekend, just as it began to rain. Today was a good day for detailing.

I don't see a leather cleaner in the photo and your steering wheel looks too shiny. Do something with it.

Cleaned it, and the shift knob, seats, and door panels, with Lexol leather cleaner last weekend. Conditioned the seats afterward, but not the rest.
I'll need to look into the shininess... Don't hit me!

Honest question, aside from using gloves, is there any way to make sure the steering wheel doesn't get super oily super quickly?

Installed some angel eye bulbs as I had one that was out. Also cleaned the car. Jesus y'all weren't lying about the brake dust from our cars. It took me forever to clean the wheels, lol.

Been very busy lately. Yesterday I had my beloved Michelin PSS swapped from my 2011 onto my 2012, and I also removed the Nitrogen valve stem caps the dealer put on and replaced them with genuine BMW Alligator TPMS caps.

Today I removed the BMW Performance stainless steel pedals along with my license plate frames from the '11. I also went through a bunch of the spare parts I've accumulated over the years. It's insane how many little fasteners, expanding rivets and various screws I have.

Thorough wash and wax to prepare for the winter... Which here in SoCal means daytime high temps in the low 60s.
