Weird object hanging out

Hi all

So our little 128i has something hanging out from under the rear bumper right behind the left tire. We have no idea what it is or what purpose it serves, so I am coming here for some help. What is this thing?

Really weird - it almost looks like the rear damper!

Can't find an easy reference to know what that would be, you should take it in and have it looked at ASAP just to be sure.

It's an anti-vibration piece. Guess this is on a vert?

It is basically just a big metal tube on rubber isolators that allow it to move back and forth to reduce vibrations in the chassis.

Holy crap ok that makes sense lol

I couldn't work out how the hell the damper would've stuck out at that point....unless it completely fell off and went through the liner and behind the heat shielding!!

Ok so I guess my question is does this belong somewhere in the bumper or somewhere near the convertible top? Did it fall down? I will say that the ride has been quite noisy inside the cabin and all the noise comes from the convertible...

I looks like it only fell down a couple inches at the back, it sits right above where it is now. Could probably just remove it.

I think it is #10 in this pic.
