New here – Buying a Used 135i
Hi all,
I've been lurking the forums for about a week now and have learned quite a bit from the various threads about buying these cars, but wanted to get a gut check from you guys about this specific car. It's a 2012 Black Sapphire Metallic 135i coupe, 6M. It has 28k miles and the dealer is asking $23k USD. Overall, the car is very clean– exterior is an 8/10 (few scratches here and there, bound to happen with a black car and wheels have a small amount of curb rash) and the interior is a 10/10. Checked underneath and there is zero rust– good for a Northeast car. I test drove the car and it is an absolute blast to drive. Fell in love immediately. The Carfax shows it's a 1 owner lease vehicle and was turned in to this private dealer at the end of the lease. It's also had the airbag recall done by BMW. Is there any other big watchouts I should be aware of? I've seen some people say bring it to a BMW dealer for inspection prior to purchase – what's that process like? I've never done that before when purchasing a car. Do I just call BMW and request a prepurchase inspection? Thanks in advance for your help, looking forward to joining the 1er community! |

It's a pretty bare bones 135i which is partly why the price is lower. Depending on what you want out of the car, you may want/need to put some money into the suspension etc.

Coming from a Wrangler I'm not really needing all the bells and whistles. Heated seats and heated steering wheel is luxury enough for me haha |

That 135i is great for what you need. It is a good price for the mileage.
Go for it! But try to haggle the price down, because who doesn't love saving money?

Thanks for the response! I got him down $1k on the price of the 135 and to come up $1500 on my trade, so I'm pretty content with the price now.

Thanks! Luckily there is a BMW dealer literally 3 minutes away from this dealer. I'm going to call them today to schedule an inspection. Hopefully all is good!

The seats that come with the m-sport are a lot better (I've had both seats). The price is a lot for a 135i without premium, nav, and m-sport. And since it's a 2012 it has no warranty. If you can find a 2013 with at least a little warranty left or a CPO then trust me, you'll be a lot more content when you start noticing stuff and hearing noises lol.

That price is nothing to write home about but it looks clean and the mileage is good.

While I love my sport seats (and M steering wheel), I wouldn't worry too much that you don't have them. If you're happy with the seats in your car and they feel comfortable to you, then that's all that matters. Can't have everything, right?

And I completely agree on the retro-fitting. My personal philosophy is if you're not wanting/needing, don't bother!

Things you should be aware of...
...1) overly complicated car ...2) dealership visits because of the first one ...3) not really a sports car, stock it only excels at cruising at 150 MPH which you can't really do here unless you're ed bolian ...4) make sure to turn DSC fully off by holding the button down for a few seconds and drive the car hard. but don't do it on a public road until you have some experience. ...5) the car looks great (in your opinion and mine) but it's a bit undecided on where to belong because it weighs a lot, yet is small enough so as to have a useless back seat unless you never carry full size humans. |
