I've been looking to upgrade my suspension for a few months, the forums are always a great place for info so I thought I would share my setup.
My car is a 2008 and I've had it almost a year, after a few engine mods I quickly realised the shocks were pretty tired (80,000kms). I looked at a few options and after much deliberation I went with the Bilstein B14s (height adjustable only), I also looked at the B16s but the truth is I will never adjust them. I was wary the B14 would be too stiff and I would be stuck but after reading everything I could I took the plunge. I picked them up from redline.com for US$950+shipping which worked out to be AU$1,300 delivered (RRP AU$2,400 locally). While the car was in I thought I would replace the strut mounts, I didn't want to use adjustable camber plates so I did some searching and found Dinan camber plates, they are fixed at 0.7 degrees negative camber (AU$170 delivered). And finally I threw in some M3 control arms ($495 from BMR). The result? The car is so much nicer to drive, much better than stock, the bouncy feeling is gone, the ride is firm but far from harsh or hard and understeer is greatly improved. I had koni fully adjustables in my S3 and I like these better. If you're looking far a great daily driver setup that is set and forget and has great handling I highly recommend this combo. |
