Tranny Fluid
Hi,
Long story short, I've got E87 120d with 122222km on the clock. I bought the car second hand about 2 months ago. The next service is in 800km time. I have asked BMW what is service and the plug my key in the computer and it just shows engine oil and filter change, which is just minor service. My question is should I change tranny fluid too? I know BMW have a life time tranny oil which a change is not needed, but being so high K's I feel better to change it. What are your thoughts? If I do change the tranny fluid should I do it with BMW considering all the service have been serviced by BMW dealer by the previous owner. Does anyone also know how much would it cost me to service my car with BMW with engine oil, filter and tranny fluid change? Thanks |

I think "lifetime" = duration of the warranty.
I would change it.

I recommend changing it with every service. My 130i felt vastly different when we swapped the oil after 40K kms.
Try an independent shop. Will be much cheaper and you usually get less BS. |

bmw quoted me $290 for oil change and filter and checks. Tranny flush is $560.
Is this worth it? Any independent mechanic that you would recommend around lower north shore? |

Doesn't have to be a BMW independent per say. Changing oil is not rocket science, even a reputable Repco shop can do it for a lot less.
Advan guys in Sydney seem really good to deal with. |

Take your 120 to Peter at Advan Performance and have him change the engine oil and filter. Get new wiper rubbers and microfilter at the same time.
Ask Peter about changing drivetrain fluids. At 120K Kms it's smart to think about some extra maintenance now to keep everything running smoothly.
