rear wheel arches
hi there all...i was at bmw today as my baby has had the 1200 miler done...as i was there a fellow 1m pilot was there too...once we were talking he was saying to me that he was looking into getting some rear wheel arch protectors...this was apparently because the wide track at the front of the car, has a habit of launching stones from the wheels thus leading to possible stone chip damage on the rear arches.he said that some of the older cars by ford for example came with a see through piece of protector that was laid on to the rear arches because of this..i think it was the ford ka and fiesta.he said he was looking into getting some mudflaps up front to prevent crap from being slung up.
anyways food for thought and all.. ps mine on the right..csl style spoiler on the left...looks like that is on the shopping list... |

www.Lamin-x.com is working on some precut paint protection for the rear fenders and side sills as we type.

3M is thin and shreds easily while lamin-x has a coating the makes debris bounce rather than tear. It goes on everything I drive, especially the race car which takes crazy front end abuse. I'm not trying to start a paint protection war here, just giving my opinion after using the stuff since 2001.

Dan,
Where is a good place to have such things installed in the ATL metro area? There seem to be quite a few installers on the Lamin-x website but you seem to be "plugged in". Thanks! |

@Edwardio's. Did the bloke say he was on any forums?
Is his the performance CF spoiler painted White? My boss's 911 had some yellowish protective film on the rear arches. Guess it was for the same reason. Cheers, Mark. |

Here's what I did to my 135i, which would probably be even better on the wide rear fenders on the M. Surely not everyone's taste, but I like them!

Someone has recommended using Paintshield based in the UK to me. They vinyl wrap cars, either part front, full front and whole car.
Not cheap but something to consider, something like £1100-£1200 for the front of the car, guaranteed for four years. I wonder if they might offer something specifically for rear arches. I've seen these thick yellow looking protectors but they spoil the look for the car for me. However the front section of the car is even more likely to get peppered after a british winter, you've just come from a Civic so you know what I mean! |

Just checked my arches and they're showing signs of stone chip damage after only 1500 miles. Need to get on this quick, by 10,000 they'll be in a hell of a state. Oh the joys of high performance motoring...
