Servicing Car... Brakes?

Hi,

MY10 135i. I'm looking into services the vehicle myself after moving out of Sydney (no more Advan for me )

My car has a little over 50,000 kms and I'm planning on replacing the brake pads.

I just wanted to know what the procedure is for Rotor replacements in the car? How can I tell if they need replacing / resurfacing (?) - Generally what is expected life of the rotors on our car? Does it differ front/rear?

Thanks
Paul

Hey Paul,

Rotors need to be changed every 2 pad changes. So they last roughly 100,000-120,000kms.

In terms of general procedure it's quite easy.

1. Remove the wheel.
2. Remove the caliper bracket off the wheel carrier (don't remove the caliper from the bracket).
3. Remove the rotor screw. Might be stuck on sometimes.
4. Replace the rotor.
5. Reinstall everything.

very little the rotor will be stuck. Get yourself a rubber mallet and give it a good beating if it is

Grab yourself a cheap set of micrometers from ebay and measure the wear.

The minimum rotor thickness will be stamped on the rotor hub if they're oem items
