Maintenance: Changing Wheel bolts?

I tried doing a search on this but couldn't really find anything.

Is it advisable to change the bolts for your wheel on a regular basis (like every couple of years) or is it one of those "use till they snap" kind of thing... ?

Depends how often you take off your wheels. I normally change once every 3-4 years.

BMW dealership quoted me $150 for a full set.

I only ask because the knobs that changed my wheels must have overtorque the bolts like crazy when I went to take off my wheels I half stripped it.

Then it got me thinking the car is 4 years old so should I just replaced the whole thing?

I guess I am due for a change, probably going to do a stud conversion...

I recall reading somewhere that if you are tracking the car you should replace every 12 - 24 months

I wouldn't bother. but if you need to replace a rotor that might be a good time/sign to replace bolts????

Yes, I would be checking the wheel bolts before a DE. It was 1addicts member DriveHard who first reported this...

I would change on a tracked car after 2 -3 track days

On a 'spirited' daily driver, every few years

On just a dd, never.

I always make sure whenever I need to get my wheels off the car, I do always informed in advance of not over-tightening the bolts.

Wow, $150 for 20 bolts? That's nuts......

I'd expect to pay $5 if you're only buying 1 or 2, I'm sure the ones from any aftermarket euro dealer are exactly the same thing but lots cheaper.
