Rolling photos. Best ones yet!

Pretty happy with how these came out. Well not the last one, but I just threw it in anyways since it was interesting.

(Edit) Here's another one:

Well done. I like that you picked a nice, tree-lined street to do these on, makes the background interesting without being distracting, and the color sets off the car a bit more.

How'd you have these done, if you don't mind?

great shots! I was thinking about doing something similar. the best way to take these shots is to mount your video camera to another car and then extract individual frames from the video. very cool shots! congrats

Extremely nice shots!! Beautiful car!! Did you use a pole/rig attached to the car & photchopped it out? I remember when my photogapher did rolling shots like that on my M3, he used a rig to do the shot.

Excellent photos! Very dramatic...not sure why you don't like the last one. The BMW logo on the caliper really makes the photo work for me. You should contract out your talents with BMW marketing/advertising!

Great job, radiant!! I'd be interested to see the rig you used. They appear to be taken by a chase car. How much post processing did it take to add blur? (I assume you added blur, since I doubt you could get the car so sharp, and still have a long enough exposure for the blur to occur)

if you are using the gopro hd camera you can use the suction cup mounted low on the chase car. the rest is photoshop magic

Larry, I don't want to sound patronizing, because I don't know how much you know or don't know about photography, but here goes: the background blur is entirely achievable in-camera by using a technique called panning. As long as the camera's movement is approximating the subject's movement, the subject will appear sharp and the background will blur (provided the shutter is slow enough, usually 1/60 or less). Of course, one can add blur in Photoshop, and perhaps that was the case here, since panning usually results in hits and misses. But if the OP used a rig rather than a chase car, panning could very easily result in the subject being tack-sharp 100% of the time.

And since I rarely get the chance to share photos with anyone, here's an example of panning (this was shot with a manual focus lens - a high quality autofocus lens probably would have captured the subject in better focus):

Thanks for explaining! I know of bolted on rigs that you then have to PS out the rig, post processing. Seeing there are a few different focal lengths used here.. and ultra wide shots, I assumed chase car and fast exposure, with blur added afterward.

I take a lot of pics at autocross with my DSLR, adn learned early that action shots are better gotten with slower shutter speed and panning. These even seem too blurred for that (even with a small aperture), so I asked about the blurring.

Thanks for the comments guys. Like some have mentioned, these were taken using a pole rig. The camera is attached to the car and I take long exposures (10-15 sec) while pushing the car. Then the next step is removing the pole and all of its reflections in photoshop. I can post a photo before the edit if anyone is interested.
