Will these tires fit on my car?
I have a 2008 128 coupe on stock suspension. I just bought new wheels and tires from my local town fair tire store. Relatively inexperience when it comes to wheel sizing, so any input appreciated. I will run a staggered setup. For my rears the tires will be 265/35R1/18w and for front; 225/40R1/18w. I can provide more fitment info if needed. I mainly have two questions, is 265 too wide for the rears? The salesperson said it should be fine but I find I have more trust in the BMW community. My second question is what does the second measurement mean, 35R1 and 40R1, and why do the two differ? I only made a downpaynent on the package so if flaws in the measurements do exist I can tell town fair immediately, otherwise I'll just be waiting for two months to recieve a setup that would never fit.

Dude...
Why would you buy something like this without doing the research. Questions: A. What brand / model for tires? B. What brand / model / width / offset for wheels? C. What are you trying to accomplish? Comments: A. You will take the understeer problem and make it far worse with this setup no matter what the brand. Fantastic for drag, poor for real driving. B. 265 is very aggressive in the rear. It can fit, but with very careful planning and wheel choice. 275 is viewed as the max without issue. C. For tire sizes. (1st part / 2nd part - 3rd part) 1st part: Width in mm 2nd part: Ratio for sidewall height. Height = Width x (Ratio) as a percent 3rd part: Inner tire diameter in inches (what diameter rim it was meant for) |

For wheels I have TSW, not sure on which measurements comply but I got 4 Nurbies (no idea what these are) two have measurements of 18X8 5X120 ET 35 and the other two; 18X19.5 5X120 ET40. My goal was to buy a new set of wheels and tires for better traction and I needed new rims because the ones I have now have had too many run-in with the curbs. I realize I look like an idiot not knowing anything about this set-up, I was really caught off guard, it was my first time buying wheels and tires for a car. I'll upload a photo to show what the wheels look like. |

TSW does not have a 1 series friendly rear offset for a 265 tire. The rear will be a serious fitment issue. Those are 3 series wheels, the one can't bolt on the same setup.

I would bet the guys at Town Fair tire have no clue that a 1 series takes a completely different wheel than a 3 series. Definitely do not buy from such people. Read up in this forum and check out the Tire Rack. Gill is their rep here on 1Addicts and he can set you up with something that will definitely fit.

Thank for the replies. I went to town fair tire yesterday and told them my concerns about fitment issues and that it looks like they might have problems. Their arguement was that it all depened on the off-set of the wheels. They also said they would order 255w tires for the rears and fit them on the wheels if the 265 do not fit. But after reading your replies I am contemplating canceling the order all together and looking to go somewhere else. I just do not know what stores in my town offers a discount whee/tire package like townfair does.

Go to the Tire Rack and they will also give you the name of a local shop that can install what you order.
