Why would you? That caliper was designed for that car. A car that is at least 600lbs heavier.
Why would you not chose from the many availble big brake kits designed for your car (Stoptech, AP Racing, Brembo)? |

+1. Why would you AT ALL? Your car came equipped with brakes capable of performing on a car that weighs 300-400lbs. more (M3), why do you think you need to upgrade them when every review raves about how amazing they are on our smaller, lighter cars?

Huh? That's a first, specially coming from a consumer and not a professional driver...I truly doubt that 99% of the people hanging around these forums could possibly and properly put the car through its paces to the point where brakes need to be upgraded. By the way, using the brakes too much does not constitute as "proper" driving/racing.

Having tracked the car, the stock brakes in the 1M suffered from fade noticeably more than the Brembo's on my old 135i M-Sport (also tracked at same course and similar summer heat). I have not tried track pads yet on the 1M.

Maybe I got a special 1M but the brakes are awesome. *Stock fluid and I went through DTC 70's and PFC 01. *You do not need a big brake upgrade. *
If you went to the track on stock pads and are coming on here to complain about the brakes then shame on you. |

I used super blue but motul 600 and just about any high temp fluid should be fine. 1.3 G's in braking, without any fade, lap after lap at Road Atlanta in nearly 100 degree temperatures says a lot about the stock brakes with minor improvements (pads + fluid). I bled the brakes when I changed the pads back to stock and the fluid showed no sign of discoloration either. Before I spent any money on BBK upgrades, especially M5 from BMW as they will probably be insanely expensive and not meant to bolt up to the 1M, I'd spend the money on 18" wheels and tires and most importantly track time.

Tracked my car last Friday at a private event at Eagles Canyon in Slidel, TX. That track can be hard on brakes. 5, 30+ minute run sessions. Hawk dtc70 pads and motul 660. No fade at all. Rock solid. Running R compound tires. I wore down a set of almost new front pads to the backing plate. Good pads and fresh fluid and you should be fine for most DE events at most tracks.

The DTC 70 pads are superb. Strong initial bite with good release characteristics. First time I've used these. Was surprised how quickly they wore down. No complaints for track use. Not recommended for use on the street. They do not have good bite under light pressure when cold and they squeal something aweful. But that is to be expected. I only drive on them to and from the track.

you mean.. the stock PADs suffered from fade ? . And yes... if you had Brembos on the 135 with track pads.. then it's just not a fair comparison is it? As others have mentioned.. the 1M already HAS a BBK on it... when the M division decided to put the calipers from the M3 on. Quote:
I will send you a PM... I am a member at ECR .. With all due respect to Dan.. Road Atlanta is indicated to be tough on brakes.. but personally really don't think it is SUPER hard on brakes.. You have hard braking zone for 10A-B... and that's really it..... Most other places (1, 3,6,7).. the driver is on the brakes and back off again quickly.. Reminds me of Texas World Speedway.. Eagles Canyon is absolutely the hardest track on brakes I have been to. Three medium long straights, and a slight dowhill braking into each one.... .. andd each one the driver needs to slow from 110-115 to about 50. In addition there are two shorter straights... also with downhill slopes.. I have been to Mid Ohio..x 2.. Road Atlanta x 3... Road America once.. barber motorsports park x 4... TWS many times.. Hallett...x 3 Putnam Park.. .. Motorsport Ranch Cresson and MSR houston.. Watkins Glen.. and a few other tracks.. Eagles Canyon is by far the hardest on brakes of all these. Hallet would be second .. I can certainly see going through a set of pads in a day at ECR... It's just not a track that one can show up to with 50% pads. I was out at ECR myself on Saturday with a club driving tour and did about 5 laps... looking forward to heading back up for a member day. I did 5 sessions in a day at Barber Motorsports Park with the stock pads .. no issues. Personally.. I plan on getting some good pads (PFC-01 or 06) , SRF fluid.. and that's it. if you've got money falling out of your pockets... or just want cool man BLUE calipers.. have at it. The first thing I do before going to track/auto-x is change brake fluid out to ATE Super Blue, like Dan recommended. Awesome stuff! I change out the pads as needed, but I've found that fluid and pads make the biggest difference, making a complete caliper kind of pointless (it's more bling vs. stopping power than most people actually need).

On a recent trackday at Spa (it`s in Belgium, near German border, maybe you`ve heard of such a place) brakes were rumbling away in third lap, ofcourse Spa is really hard on the brakes, but anyway all Mcars have problems with brakes, and the ONE is no exception. |

Anyhow, that's beyond the point of the thread. According to you the brakes are garbage, and according to everyone else who tracks regularly a change of fluid and pads suffices. That's good enough for me, as a caliper replacement would be a waste of money. |
