Who is on their second 1 series?

So my lease was almost done and I went looking for a replacement for my 2011 135i Coupe, M Sport, 6MT. Normally, I don't like to get the same car twice. Bottom line is I couldn't find anything that was comparable to the 135. Compact size, fast, manual transmission, comfortable daily driver. So now my new 2013 135is, 6MT is being built this week and I should have it as soon as they can ship it across the Atlantic. Went from Space Gray/Coral to Lemans Blue/Oyster just to switch it up a bit. Hopefully, I'll notice the extra 20HP!

Now I'm seeing the threads that show how few 135is coupes with manual transmissions are being built and we'll have a very rare car. Looking forward to driving what many (including Road & Track) consider the last true driver's car that BMW might ever make.

How many of you are repeat 1 series owners?

I am a repeater!

Got one of the first 135s - 2008 Titanium Silver 135i in April 2008, no options at all since that was the only way I could afford it at the time.

Unfortunately it was badly damaged in an accident and I ended up getting a 2011 S5, but always kinda missed my 135 (and wanted to save money, too!)

So, before they went away for good as I had no interest in a new 2 or 4-series, I toyed with the idea of maybe ordering another 135, when I stumbled upon the 135is. Fell in love with the 313s and the whole package was just perfect for me, got a great deal, so went ahead and ordered one, loaded this time!

Haven't hit 700 miles yet, but loving my new 2013 135is and almost wish I were able to get a second one and have it sealed in a box to open up new in 10 years so I have another new one waiting for me then.

Will be interesting to see how much of a difference you notice between your 135i and 135is. I think it's the combo of more power + the performance exhaust, or mostly the performance exhaust that is just infectious and seems like a different beast. If you didn't have the PE on your current one (hard to tell from the pic), the difference might be more subtle. But you'll probably never see another 135is on the road at all, let alone one like yours. Congrats.

I know what you mean about getting a spare and saving it for the future. The funny thing is, I rarely see any 135i Coupes anyway, so seeing another 135is would be even less likely.

No PE on the 2011, so I'm looking forward to the meaner sound.

I went a a year and a half before I saw another 135i on the road, and it was while I was halfway across the country just outside Cincinnati. I got so excited, I waved and gave him the thumbs up, thinking, hey, I've got a 135i, too! Then I realized, oops, I'm not in my car! I'm in a corolla rental car I'm driving across the country and no wonder the guy thought I was a lil nuts.

All I know is the IS is a beast.

Had a 2012 135i MSport DCT LeMans Blue, about 11 months; decided I should have got the 6MT car, so found a same year, 2012, with very low kms on in Jet Black, 6MT and all other oiptions except prem. radio, and did the trade.

Should have got the 6MT last year, but OK now....

I had an '09 128 M-Sport, Black Sapphire over Terra. Loved everything about the car. It was exactly what I was looking for--a quick, fun car to drive the long way home whenever the mood hit me. I truly didn't need the extra power of the 135 for my kind of fun driving.

I was set to go out of warranty in July, and didn't want to think about repairing it in the future out of pocket. My dealer is 2-1/2 hours away, and the nearest indie ship is even farther.

Plus, I wanted one more classic inline-six, and I was wary of the terrible reviews of BMW's push into electric power steering (which I expect to see in the 2-series).

So, I ordered another 128, Lemans over Oyster, which I took delivery of on Saturday.

I may not have the "uber" 1-series, but I am on my second 1er!

Nice color combo. Same as mine. I hope the oyster seats can be kept clean.

I am going to follow a regular cleaning schedule--say, once a month. A capful of Woolite in a bucket of water should take care of light dirt, without being harmful. If it gets worse, I have the Leatherique system on the shelf.

Some of the worst soiling comes from blue-jean dye transfer. I'm much more of a khaki person, so that should help.

Looking good! Totally not biased or anything.

What do you think of the mineral grey so far after having space gray? I can't say enough good things about the color.

I love it. Reminds me of Sparkling Graphite Metallic (2008-only color). Space gray looked good in early morning/late afternoon light but could look mousy and washed-out in strong sunlight. It was great for hiding dirt, though!

I almost got sparkling graphite on my 2008 but when I saw it in person on a 3-series before I ordered, it looked very purple to me, whereas the mineral grey looks like a much truer (and slightly darker) charcoal. I had the same thoughts on space gray as well - looks good in the dim light, but not as much in strong sunlight, for my tastes at least. I sometimes would see a little purple in that as well.

I can tell you though, I'm shocked at how well the mineral grey hides dirt, especially considering how dark it is, as I went almost 4 weeks without washing mine. Just a quick swipe of my duster and from a few feet away, couldn't even tell it was dirty. So, I've been pleasantly surprised in that regard.

I think the Mineral Grey looks great and was a difficult close second to Lemans Blue. Only went blue to be completely different from my previous Space Gray. Also wanted a change from Coral Red which would've been a natural with Mineral Grey.

No wrong choices, they all look great!

When you drive the 1M and 135is back to back, how do they compare? Assuming they're stock, is the acceleration at least close?

Wanted a 1M, but missed my chance when they shut down production so quickly. Hoping the 'is' is noticeably quicker than the 135i.

Great thread! It's cool to see so many loyal second time buyers.

1M Tex - how massive is the difference between 1M and 135is?

Does that mean even us 135is people drive "girl cars" since that's his wife's car? Hmm.

I think manual 1er's are rare in general - not even a majority of us 1addicts have manuals (I'm guessing, no hard statstics).

In the words of Car & Driver: "SAVE THE MANUALS!"

(1st 1 series here - a 128i; first BMW actually, but I wish I had two )
