Does Your Climate Control Fan Do This?

I have a 2011 135i vert. When I turn on the climate control fan (ac or heat, in manual mode, not auto mode), I find that it usually cuts out for a split second every minute or 2. It only cuts out for maybe half a second, and then starts right back up again, but it's very frequent. Doesn't really affect performance, but it's annoying, cause I can hear it stopping, even if only briefly. Is that normal?

No, mine does not do that. I almost always leave mine in manual mode. I think something is wrong with your HVAC circuit board. On past BMW's (e36 and e46 cars) this was a big problem.

Btw... I had that very same problem in my old e36 323i sedan. It was the resistor pack for the blower motor. Though the e36's also had a huge failure rate of the circiut board for the climate controls. The resistor pack was down by teh driver's gas pedal and cost me 95 euros for the part. Two screws and my car was fixed.

Thanks! Well, this would officially be my first problem with the car (knock on wood), so can't complain too much. Had it since August 2010.

Dackelone sounds correct.

The Part is called a Blower Resistor..( no dig at Dackelone, just using BMW words) and they do fail al the time..

Take it in. it doesnt sound so bad.. good thing is that it happens alot and they will be able to duplicate it.

Could also be the recirc mode that goes-in and out.
I noticed my car's vents changing sound (due to the level of airflow changing all the time), and could even hear a flap opening and closing when things were really quiet.

Put it into fresh air only mode and now it's stable.

Hey, I think that's it. I had it on Auto mode, and it seemed to be cutting out every couple of minutes, but maybe what I was hearing was just a switch from fresh air to recirculate. Dunno, but when I put it on fresh or recirculate, it stopped sounding like it was cutting out.

Strangely, tonight I had it on Auto mode, and it didn't act up. Maybe that's cause it was cooler outside? Not sure what triggers it to switch over in the Auto mode.

Anyway, it looks like I'm one small step closer to solving this mystery. Thanks GtiGyver.

Mine does this also when in the auto recirculation mode. It is kind of wierd sounding. I only have 6k on mine and it's done it from day one.

Mine too, I'm guessing it slows or stops the fan while the flaps are changing to avoid any strange noises or reduce resistance on the flap servos.

Hi there

I have the same issue and have worked out it only happens when in auto recirc mode.
It seems to be the sensor which is looking forthe pollutants is over sensative .

it triggers seemingly at random but is actually "sensing" some pollutant

This may not be pertinent, but for what it's worth, I had a similar issue with a 2011 128i where the blower motor would cut out for 2-3 seconds and then restart, usually shortly after start-up. However in my case I sometimes also had a yellow warning indicator at start-up displaying a car on a lift.

Problem first occurred after the car was left parked for 10 days at an airport.

Service manager advised a weak battery can cause meaningless warning indicators, and as it turned out, the battery was indeed the problem. When kept fully charged everything worked fine. BMW replaced the original battery and the problem never reoccurred.

However, when I took my car in for service a week ago BMW replaced my battery again, this time with a larger one, as part of a 128i recall in Canada.
