Heated Front Seats!

My 135i comes in two weeks and I did not initially order the Heated Seats option.

And its too late now.

Is there any way that I can order the heated seats option somehow and have them install it over here?

you can buy a bunch of those hand warmers, stick them in a portable seat cushion like tailgating at Giant stadium!

You're best bet would be to start fishing the "parts for sale" section on here or other sites for guys selling their stock seats with the heaters in them. (I would guess they'd be swapable with some fuss.)

Is it really that big of a deal is the question you'd have to wrestle with.

Buy the parts from your dealer and retrofit them. I did this on my '88 325ix, only took a few hours.

Seriously? I would think it would be WAY more trouble than it's worth.

Pulling the upholstery, installing the heaters, getting power to it, installing a switch, etc...

It was actually easy mind you that was on an E30. Pull the seats out remove the seat backs install the heating elements and run the wire harnesses under the carpet and up through the dash and pop in the factory switches.

Here's the kit for the 3 series to retrofit heated seats. Since the 3 and 1 series share the same seats, you have all your answers right there, including cost. Btw, this kit is for non-sport seats only, according to the description. Dunno if there's a kit for the sport seats. I didn't see it.

yikes! 480$ for the kit, at 500$ from factory i dont see why you'd want to mess w/ all that stuff....unless you all of a sudden have heated seats envies, which happens i guess! lol

Bavarian Autosport sells heated seat pads for BMW seats. If I were you I would purchase one of those. Cheaper and easier than installing. And you only use the heated seats a few months a year remember.

I will never again own a car without heated seats. Should I mistakenly purchase one that way, I'll shortly remedy it by installing them myself. I've done this on a Miata and a WRX with superb results both times. Search for "Carbotex" seat heaters online and on eBay. You should be able to pick up a two-seat kit for $150-200. That's less than $100 per seat. The install is no 5 minute job but it isn't difficult if you can follow basic instructions and the rewards are immense.

FWIW, the factory seat heaters in the wife's 335i (sport seats) heat up VERY quickly. Heating elements are also in the bolsters in the BMW sport seats as opposed to just the seat & back surfaces. I'd order the factory heaters without hesitation if given the option. But installing aftermarket is totally feasible.

+1 The butt warmers in my e90 heat up waaay quicker than in my wife's Audi. In New England, they are required equipment for me...
