TPMS sensors and lots of wheel weights.

Just got my new Tire Rack Breyton GTS-R wheels back from Discount Tire with new Falken KF-452 tires mounted. Each wheel has a LOT of weights mounted on the wheel, in each case directly across from the TPMS sensor. The pic is the worst one with 18 weights. Any chance they don't know what they are doing?

It's the tires, not the wheels or the sensors...(usually)...I had Michelin Pilot Sports on my 545 with very little weight, put some cheapo Kumhos on about 2 months ago to get me to trade-in time (hopefully friday!). TONS of weight on the wheels to balance them.

Keep in mind that they're no longer using lead weights, and the stuff they're using now isn't as heavy, so it's normal that it's taking more of them than you're used to seeing. 18 is still a lot though. I'm betting someone mounted the tires without paying atttention to where the valve stem is.

It's a bit of all 3, could be tire variances, wheel variance, and the TPM/valve weigh 2.5 oz. New OE wheels are designed to use the TPMS and balance closer to 0 but most aftermarket does not take the sensors into account.

I agree with BavX. It could be a combo of all 3. Tires, wheels, and TPMS. Since the TPMS does weigh quite a bit, it will throw off the balance of the whole package, requiring a good amount of weights to counter the other side.
