The scary part is that these knuckleheads are allowed to disassemble our engines and examine/repair/remove small intricate parts from time to time... I could only imagine what else they tend to forget.

Is that a joke? When I had a problem with my dealer I sent in the survey and followed up with BMWNA. Even though the car was listed as a CPO on their site and it was bought at a BMW dealer...BMWNA said "Each BMW dealer is independently owned and operated, there is nothing we can do. Try contacting the dealer again". Once I found a honest person at the dealer he went above and beyond and even offered to find me another car if I wanted to get out of this one... I don't get surveys anymore. If it weren't for the person I finally dealt with this would be my last BMW.

Wasn't clear from your post. Well, it sounds like your issue may have been specific to your dealership rather than a BMW issue, reason I say this is because I considered asking BMWNA to lemon my car and they agreed that my car has been quite a troublesome 1 so they gave me a couple options and we moved from there.

My dad had his oil changed and they only put in a couple quarts oil. Some how it was HIS fault!?? They did nothing! But it was a Chevy truck so who cares? He put the rest of oil and he is still driving it. They did offer to do the next oil change free. Yeah right!

A driver from the dealer is on his way as we speak. I hope they can at least put a good amount of gas in it too. The dealer is 45 minutes up the highway. I think I have 1/4 tank of gas. If they give the car back to me empty, it means they didn't get the point of this whole ordeal.

They are picking up my car any minute now and dropping off a loaner. They will be doing an oil change, engine flush and possibly walnut shell blasting.
I meet with the owner of the dealer on Monday to discuss how he is going to keep my business going forward. |

Although i would be mad this sounds like they are doing the right thing. Push for that walnut shell blasting. Its a pain in the ass to do it yourself and expensive otherwise. Oil change and a new cap you should be good to go!

In my experience with previous BMW's, BMWNA's customer service is completely worthless. The reps are too young, don't know the first thing about cars, and are not empowered whatsoever. It's all up to the dealer. I lived in a major city with bad dealers - I quit buying BMW's for years until I moved away.

Update:
I apologize to all. I don't want to be one of those OPs that doesn't deliver. So...the dealer owner and myself agreed that the oil cap will be replaced and that my next service visit (which is beyond the initial 50,000 mile warranty) would be on the house. We also agreed that they would perform a "fuel saver" service. This is the method that the dealers who do not walnut blast use to clean the valves. They spray a cleaner in your intake for 30-45 minutes continuously. Ehh...it was free so why the hell not? I would definitely prefer the walnut blast though. So...my car was serviced and given back to me but the valve cleaning service needed to be scheduled a week ahead of time. No problem. Last Wednesday I was supposed to bring it in. This happened the Monday of the week I was supposed to take it. NOOOOO.... Chargepipe didn't just come off, it exploded. I'm running a JB4, but I'm only using Map 2. You can see where the brackets burst off the pipe where it meets the intake. I used the BMW "SOS" button for the first time. Car got towed to the dealer in 25 minutes. Pretty amazing. So, I just got the car back this weekend. They replaced the chargepipe, and the throttle body + sensors. Also performed the fuel saver service. Car is running great and the dealer did an awesome job to keep me as a customer. Last edited by Hokie135Hi; 06-05-2013 at 09:23 AM.. |

Has the dealership ever given you grief about the mods while doing warranty work?

- Took my then-partner's CRV to Circuit City to install a CD changer under the driver's seat. (Yes, this was years ago, when a CD changer was state-of-the-art!) Long story short, the installer drilled right through his brake line. My partner almost had an accident, just pulling out of the space - he had no brakes. Problem is, it then became clear that the installer KNEW it, but didn't say anything, cause he didn't want to get in trouble. That's someone who should never be allowed to touch a car again. - Took my Toyota MR2 to Jiffy Lube (which I almost never did). I see the guy filling the tires. I ask him what pressure he's putting in. He says "50 pounds all around." I tell him that's way over the Toyota recommendation, and he says, "but that's what it says on the tires." I said, "It says MAX 50 pounds." That idiot was sending cars out of there all day long with the MAX tire pressure in them. Again, someone who shouldn't be allowed to touch a car.

I dropped my car off at dealer to have minor service. It came back with the BACK bumper knicked in two small spots. To make up for the small dings the dealers repainted my entire FRONT bumper (at my request) back to factory finish as a courtesy (there were tons of marks and paint missing from freeway driving, scrapes, also a dent where someone backed into me while parked on the street, it now looks perfect)

Ask for an extended warranty.
This is equivalent to if you had forgotten to close your oil cap during warranty. They would have voided your warranty without thinking twice. So in this case, they should be responsible for extending it.
