Integrated Ipod connection?

OK - I have searched this site before writing this and cant say I can find my question answered simply.

Can you get an adapter for an ipod which allows your ipod to be controlled thru the BMW audi system - either on iDrive or on the standard BMW stereo?

If such a device exists - where can I find it?

Yes.

It will be available at dealers in July. I've already test driven it and should have one installed in about two weeks. I'll report more then. Jason (just above this post) posted a link to my post with announcement details.

Does it work similarly to the current install such as in a 02-05 x5?

And it can be controlled exclusively through the standard stereo?

No, the first generation iPod Interface doesn't have the ability to play everything in the iPod and query the ipod's database through the iDrive interface (or equiv. on an X5). It is limited to 5 playlists and Random.

Happily, the new generation iPod interface has none of these limitations.

The second generation still does have limitations on the amount of songs but this is not the low limit of the CD limitation of 99.

So if not 99, what is the limitation?

The the ipodyourbmw retrofit kit fitted to my car last week does not appear to have those limitations. You can browse by artist, playlist, album, song, genre, just as on the IPOD itself. Its brilliant !
