David325Australia - FUEL 100 octane
I would pvt message you...but i think this is interesting for everyone!
Can you give us a write up on how you find the 100 octane fuel is treating you? Affecting performace, fuel consumption, feel? Also - E90Fleet said somewhere that 98 RON is recommended? What is the next down grade of petrol you guys can get? It's just really interesting, now with all this fuel nonsence we've got. 95, 93? Is there really a difference. |

you know broken 1, you are amazing! i was just about to start a new thread with my 100RONfuel review just now But you beat me to it by seconds.
anyway, yes the engine is tuned for 98ron and the 100ron did not, i repeat, did not do anything for my cars performance. in fact i felt it even inhibited it ever so slightly. i went back to 98ron and i am very happy again. so the 100ron will wait until the bmw engine is tuned for it, even though the ecu adjusts the timing and fuel mixture. not the way to go just yet with the n52 engine. probably for m3, m5 & m6 cars. sleep time for me so i will ad your post and no doubt fleet's response (hi fleet!) and anyone elses responses. catch you all later and enjoy your day. Bue for now.

Hi David
As you said the //M engines would love the stuff Broken1, there is a difference going to higher octane, aslong as there is till room for the ECU to advance the timing Did you see the video link I posted of 5th Gear testing higer octane ? It did nothing for a small car engine, but a lot for larger more powerfull ones. anything higer than 98 at sea level for the non-M engines is really a waste, just as David has noticed

Yea, I did see that video...
I just had this thought in my head, I wanted to hear from Dave - cause I remeber him being so excited about the 100 fuel... Gonna get my fam to put in the new 95 (I belive the shell on republic rd and the shell on william nicol have it) in the next two weeks and ask if they notice any power gains! |

OT, but what about the diesels? Any benefit to using Aral/BP Ultimate Diesel or Shell V-Power Diesel over the regular?

I've switched to 95 V-power now that's it's available in Joburg. I do feel that it's slighly better, but maybe it's all in the mind......

Over here, (as of Jan) Regular diesel is 500ppm..and Sasol and Total sell a premium diesel which is 50ppm. They haven't really marketed Shell V-power diesel being better than the regular diesel though (Shell Diesel-tech) |

I see I'm going to have to test 500 and 50 and then different brands - to get the one I prefer. I never really noticed a difference in brands of petrol - but the diesel is more sensitive... |

i was rather dissappointed with the fuel but i had to try it and see for myself as one must do to discover fact from fiction from sales propaganda. 98 it is till i get my $250,000 M5!!!! hey fleet, thanks for the octane tip. i have seen it on 5th gear. my favourite episode was when tiff raced the new M5 arond the race track and was power sliding the thing all the while squealing and giggling like a little girl. sad thing is, i too was doing the same watching it!

broken 1,
all the best finding the best low sulphur (thats sulfur for the US posters) diesel fuel for your car. hope you find an improved performance fuel, especially for that poor low down torque/initial whiplash weapon your car outputs. what is it? a lowly 350mn or something similar. serioulsy, my 250mn toy does a great job off the line so i can only imagine what the 320d does, let alone the new 330d or 530d. take care buddy.

You awake again dave?? You only went to bed this morning? Sheesh.
What time zone is Ausi in? We're in GMT +2 The only problem finding the "ultra low sulphur" diesel, is some places have their pumps marked - with the old diesel (3000/500) and some places don't have their tanks labeled with the new diesel (500/50) and the attendants know nothing... So I'm going to try...bit by bit. I am hoping that everywhere that looks busy (aka gets my business) in durbs - and the "one stop" on the way down all at least have the 500ppm diesel. I hated that "heavy" "asthmatic" feeling the 3000ppm diesel gave the car. |

Your 325i gets off the line a little faster than my car (say a second difference 0-100) but the diesel definately has GREAT in gear acceleration. The best is E46 330i's - who think they are all so cool. By the time they've shifted up into 4th to "tune" me...I'm away in my powerband...watching my speed climb. |

(for those wondering we live at 5,500 feet above sea level here, so loose quite a bit of power on our cars )

Not sure about out time zone in GMT time but maybe GMT + 12 with daylight savings. Something close to that anyway.

I am definately going to try search out the good stuff down at the coast..but I might be limited by the nagging GF. She complains when I pass an empty parking - because it looks too small, or there is a big SUV or a dented car - imagine how she'll complain if I try fill up at more than one petrol station!!!Hehe... might take a drive while she's on the beach tho. I'm "worried" that my car will have super power down at the coast - and I'll miss it back up here (which will once again tempt me to tune it *resist*) oh well...I'll try enjoy it while I'm down there!!! *without getting a fine hehe* |
