So that makes it a NON-M car.......
Not at all. When you look back at the M3 either in E30,E36 and indeed E46.
There was no specific equipment you look to see in M cars today,
Although it was the E46 CSL that begun the whole looking at removing weight from the M cars.

As said before the 1M Coupe is not an E30 M3 - it is just not possible , thank progress and legislation for that.
What can be done is to endure the Spirit of the car which means focusing on the characteristics that defined the E30 , making it feel like a spiritual successor in terms of character and handling.

As revealed by the reviews , not a single one has anything bad to say about the car. I have never driven an M3 with a sunroof only the CFRP roof, because that's the way it was intended.
Therefore I am unsure whether there is a noticeable difference?

I had a feeling when I heard the power figures / motor being identical to the z4iS that there would most likely be no ITBs.

Then again, as nice as it would be to have ITBs, would they actually be necessary on a car that most likely will only rev to 7k tops?

I'm somewhat torn between a 1m and a 335iS, as the reviews have gradually poured in. I drove a 335iS last weekend and loved the car, very elegant; but I'm put off by the lack of an LSD / more aggressive brakes.

The exhaust note was perfect and the car was very elegant, my lady loved it as well.

I guess I'll have to wait and drive a 1M, if possible, once they're out. I'm a bit concerned by the bad press BMW will most likely get, but seek to avoid, regarding the HPFP and the direct impact on the vehicles depreciation as a result.

Very doubtful. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any changes to the engine at all.

'Spiritual successor' might be a stretch, but 'best handling M car' since the CSL might be within reach, and that's most certainly good enough, IMO.

I don't think that anybody ever claimed to notice a difference, yet it's become an M trademark feature. I know, no dogmas, but why retain the quad exhaust dogma (which only startet half way in M's history) then?

Best regards,
south

I MIGHT consider a CF roof if the option was <=$500, but I doubt it for 8lbs. Good grief, my weight could change that much based upon the clothes I wear or how much I indulge over the weekend!

If I already had a 135i, I'd just keep it. For just the LOSS you'd take, you could do a LOT to amp up your already great car. You could probably get better performance for lower cost even if you went an expensive route like just dropping it off and having the full Dinan engine/suspension/wheels upgrades done.

Although I know alot of people will claim this will not be a true M car (something thats proclaimed against every new M car released). If the price starts were I think (hope) it will start, if nothing more this car will be an excellent platform to modify.

....at this point I could care less about the engine.

And... in europe there were actually TWO versions of this engine:

BMW M3 3.0
210 kW (286 PS) @7,000
S50B30

und...

BMW M3 3.2
236 kW (321 PS) @7,400
S50B32

IF I remember right... this was one half of the Mclaren F1 street car motor. I think the euro cars used the same heads as the F1 car. BMW NA thought this would push the prices too high, so they opted for a USA version of the M3 with was a 240 Hp engine with a short rear end gearing for better 0-60's. First year production of the US M3 was a 3.0L then the next year it grew to 3.2L's in displacement.

Only in Canada did they get the euro M3's. AND just a hand full at that. Milner's shop in WVa also sold a few of these race races for the US market. I think 14 or so cars IF I remember right. They sold for $65K while the regular US M3's had a price of $40K!

The U.S. spec had a 3.0 and then the 3.2 after only one year as well

We need more color options...

This (3) color limit is just stupid BMW. You need a gray, blue and red color option at the very least. not asking for silverstone or black Jerez, but get with the program already.

LOL at those that only compare the costs of a CF roof to the typical metal roof with sunroof, motor, etc, etc.

There are all kinds of engineering and production costs to consider. Sorry guys, but its not as simple as comparing the total cost of these parts -vs- the total cost of those parts, there is so much more involved...

I, personally, have enjoyed moon-roofs on every car I've owned with one and missed them on the cars that didn't have them.

I don't mind not having a great color choice because Valencia Orange 1M coupé will be the new Inka Orange 2002tii that we all lust after in 20-30 years on ebay because there will only be <2700 in the world.

I was 50/50 on getting the 1M coupé because I would have to get rid of my year 1 model and the fact that it won't have a NA engine; I am not a fan of turbos, that's all.

I also found out that I might potentially lose my job in the coming months right before I go on a 2 week trip to Europe so I've got all kinds of variables floating around on whether to pursue it.
