I would expect more from that car.

Or less if we're being accurate

Best time I can do is 12.54 @ 113 with a 2.0'.

For some reason I was siting around 111mph and 12.6-12.9 ET for the rest of the runs. Last week I was trapping 114.0-114.4 but this week it wasn't happening.

I wont be going back for a while until I can get a LSD and better suspension.

Your short time is letting you down.

Don't need an LSD either... or suspension? I was doing 1.7 60ft's with stock suspension and no LSD.

Yeah, I know, but what I dont know is how I can reduce them. I have kept a log of all the runs I have made since june and I am defintely getting better, so hopefully in time and with practice I will get it sorted.

I am getting the LSD and suspension anyway, so regardless of the need, I am going to wait until they are installed before I go back. I dont know about you, but my car just loves to dance - and I am a bit over it.

What tyres are you running mate? The only thing between your car and the road is your rubber. Get something like Michelin PSS or Bridgestone Potenza RE-11.

I have Yoko Neova AD08s, 255/35R18 on the stock 8.5" wheel width. I run about 20-25psi always do a quick/moderate burnout.

I have 255 AD08's also Steve and while a good tyre it's crap for the drag strip.

You need a 17 x 9.5" with either a 275 or 265 R888 or even better some Hoosiers.

+1

But in saying that I still think you can do better than a 12.5 with a 2.0, trap speed is a bit low.

My 11.8 was with a 1.841 60ft, would love to see how some drag radials would improve the time.

Yeah, I am not satisfied with the results but just cant get a decent 60' so 12.5 will be it for a while. You guys must just have the magic touch. Mind you, in my defence I have only been to the strip about 7 times ever, since June this year so might just be the noob factor.

Ditch those AD08's, I think it's the problem. I use RE-11's and Michael switched to them as well before he ran the 11. I've only ever been to the drags 4 times ever as well so I really think those tyres are holding you back.

Steve click on the link in my sig and follow down to the recommended wheel/tyre combos.

The no brainer drag racing setup is automatic tranny, Kosei K1 17" wheels and Hoosier drag radials, add FBO and methanol and reduce as much weight as you can.

Once you mount up your E92 M3 rear end with solid bushings and swap in a 410 diff ratio you will go to #1 on the list. It's all about the hardware with heavy and relatively underpowered street sedans.

Thanks for the tip but I am stuck with these ad08s for a while. I would have thought ad08s and the potenzas would be pretty much on par.

I have read your drag racing guide a few times. At this stage I am trying to get the best time I can with my regular street setup. I had actually had a look for those kosei wheels but couldnt find anywhere local that sells them. Tirerack does, but thats if they are still shipping to aus.

I was talking to Chris at advan yesterday and he gave me some good advice that its best to go on a Wednesday just after or prior an andra event so that the track has been prepared properly. I have heard from quite a few people that sydney dragway isnt always maintained properly.

I will see how 3.85 is before I go shorter. Those turner solid bushings look pretty good. I was hoping to have heard Justins opinion of them but it doesnt look he will be using them until next year. That said, being that I am putting in the whole subframe rather than just putting the bits'n'pieces onto a 135i subframe, it might be fine as is.

Unfortunately WSID does little to no track prep for the usual Wednesday night events and you are correct it's day's like today at WSID (Judgement Day) where the track is ready for the REAL enthusiasts. I was hoping to go with a few mates that race their LJ and LH Torana's today but got called to work.

BTW I prefered my Federal 595RSR's anyday over the Yoko AD08's.

The whole track preparation thing is a furphy. For major drag meetings they prepare the track using TrakBite or the equivalent. This works really well with high powered, light drag racing cars with large slicks.

These race vehicles have the horsepower to haze the large slicks and lay down a nice big thick sticky track of rubber on the surface. This means when thy launch, the slicks stick really well to the rubber already laid down and so you get better traction.

Radial tyres are constructed totally differently to slicks. They are much MUCH harder and the action of a radial - drag radials included - is to "cut up" the track prep spray and any rubber deposited by cars with slicks. In effect the radial tyres destroy the track preparation.

That's why seasoned drag racers can't stand Wednesday night newbies with radial tyres and it's also why they don't bother to do any track prep for a street meet.

In the US I've seen a smarter approach where they have one lane for slicks and one lane reserved for radial tyres so everyone can be happy. Here they just don't bother with track prep.

So when I rock up with runflats I know I'm going to cut the track to pieces. What can you do if yu just want to run your street car and have a bit of fun?

In a month I will be in Melbourne, so if my wife lets me, I might have a crack at Calder Park or Heathcote to see what they are like and see how the car does on a different strip. I really would like to see how quick/fast it can do before I put meth/LSD/coilovers on. Might see if some Melbourne members are up for it.

At the end of the day its just a bit of fun for me. What I like about it is turning up in a somewhat ugly car (from some angles its damn fugly) and most people there instantaneously thinking little of it, taking a dislike to it and by extension, me. Then running faster/quicker than them.

Our cars are certainly conversation starters at these events, always have a long chat with someone about what it has going for it.

Should really organise a private day. Considering we have been able to get 6 black 135i's at the same Wednesday night we should be able to organise a Euro day, or BMW + VAG etc. I am up to help organise if others are keen.

How would you even go about swapping a 4.10 in? Not to mention traction in low gears would be even more of a consideration? ED: ph 4.1 in an AT would be entirely different to MT, but still ridiculously short?

4.1 in an MT would be a sight..

Also, is the op of this thread not updated or is that the full list of runs?

Ed: and i've always been curious, why wouldn't an LSD be an advantage vs an open diff in a drag race?

Have fun. I have been out there enough times in the last 4 months so I cant be bothered to go again for a while. It will probably be a good night though - nice and dry track and lack of cloud cover today will mean nice cool temps when the sun goes down. Will most likely be packed out though...school holidays and all.
