Anyone machine wash the BMW 1M car cover?
Since I park outside 1/2 the time and the world has been covered in fine, yellow snow the last few weeks, I've been using the cover almost all the time.
Now the pollen has snuck it's way inside the cover and is leaving nasty streaks on my lovely paint. The description says it can be machine washed but I wanted to see if anyone had done it. Cold wash and air dry is what I'm thinking.

Get online and find the manufacturer's instructions. I have a BMW car cover (not the 1M), and the instructions I found from the manufacturer actually said to use Windex (or equivalent) in the wash, instead of laundry detergent. That's what I did, and it worked fine. I don't have the instructions handy, tho, and besides, your fabric may be different than mine.

The reason I posted such a mundane question is because the instructions actually say it can be machine washed. This is the first outside car cover I've owned that is supposedly washer/dryer friendly. I suppose I could trust the instructions but wanted to see if anyone else had already done it before I plunge in.

AND... when you wash it in the wash machine... DO NOT use any fabric softener. There's something in the fabric softener that can scratch paint. When I wash my MF towels I only use soap and I always run a load of wash before hand w/o fabric softener.

Thanks. I actually tossed it in the washer yesterday as well and it worked like a charm. I let the cover drip dry but that made a bit of a mess. So I'll put it in the gentle-cycle on the dryer next time.
It really is a remarkably good cover and worth the premium.

I have the same cover and haven't washed it yet, but will use this when I do:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikwax-Tech-Wa.../dp/B005H3F5FU I use it for my gore-tex ski gear and it works great...no residue, odor or fabric softener.

I washed mine normally in the washer—just used one of those drop in tide pods, no fabric softener. I think for drying i used permanent press setting (takes longer, and probably a few rounds of it but less intense). I'm not sure if you can entirely get rid of the creases.

I bought mine from a fellow member. It looks perfect and looks new but smells like paint thinner or some sort of chemical. I was wondering if that's normal or maybe it was stored in garage with chemicals. Thanks

sorry to revive such an old thread guys. I washed my 1M car cover and I found the manufacturers instructions, which I thought you guys might find useful...
"NEVER... use fabric softner. 1. using a large commercial washer, wash the cover using 1/4 cup of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner (small car covers can be easily washed in a home size washer). Put the cover in the washer and pour the cleaner in the tub after it's filled with warm water or, for some wall mounted commercial units pour it directly in the machine, then put in the cover and start the machine. use a "gentle" cycle if available. 2. Rise the cover twice (2x) to remove all the cleaner. 3. Air dry, or use a dryer set on Permanent Press heat setting" Hope that helps. |

Does anyone actually like the BMW OEM car cover? I have it and it feels super flimsy. Yes, it fits great by the OEM car cover I had for my Z4M could have withstood a small blast on it without impacting the car.

I'm impressed and really like it. Very easy to put away.
