They filmed on several canyon roads in the SLC area. the closest from SLC it's self is Big Cottonwood canyon, then take the Guardsman Pass exit to Park City. Lots of switch backs and beautiful scenery.

Southern Utah has five national parks, some of the darkest skies in the country for stargazing and a lot of other scenic places. I'm guessing with a little planning you could have some great experiences while only adding a couple hours of driving time to your trip. Side note: One of things I think a lot of people miss in this era of GPS navigation where "fastest route" is the default setting is the chance to add a trivial amount of time to a trip to see some amazing scenery. We made the trip between Dallas and Salt Lake City a few times and it only adds about 45 minutes to go via Independence Pass, Colorado (12,095 ft / 3,687 m) where you're surrounded by 13,000-14,000 ft peaks (4,000 m) vs. taking the standard, boring route. Thank you very much for that detailed list of driving! My wife and I are presently arguing, I mean discussing, which vehicle to take - the 1M or her MDX. We might be bringing mountain bikes with us so that could narrow down the choices quickly...

///BYU I have done some but not all of the road choices you listed. I love the Forrest Gump road option.
