OEM alarm kit deal...

I was looking to order the OEM alarm kit. Upon searching I found that BMW of Morristown, NJ had it on ebay for $195 plus shipping. It will be here today. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. If it is as advertised, that's a pretty good deal, I think.

There should be some coding involved to get it to work properly. I think the light will blink once you put it in but the rest of the functions are disabled.

Alarm needs to be coded to the car after install..

1.0 hrs I think is what most dealers charge to code..

You're lucky you drive a 2008. Didn't they yank the factory pre-wiring after a certain model year? Not everyone can buy the OEM alarm and hook it up.

Yes, the light will blink after the install, even before any coding changes are performed.

Correct...some 09's and all '10's + do not come prewired.

How can you tell if you're car was pre-wired with it or not?

It's installed

Alright it's installed! The light blinks fast when I lock the car. If I lock it twice it goes to the normal pulse of blinking every second or two. My guess is that its because the car has yet to be programmed.

My guess is you look under the hood and see if the hood switch connector is there, you're good. Check to be sure though. Also, look at the DIY in the index. I used it and the instructions are great.

OP ^^. I just checked and do have the connector under the hood. Does that mean I'm pre-wired for the alarm kit?

There are only three connections:

1) The hood switch
2) The connection for the sonic sensor in the center domelight assembly
3) The connection for the siren in the driver side rear wheel well (hidden by the liner.

Good luck!

I did the install in about 35 minutes. It's actually quite easy. You will have to visit a dealer for coding after the install, or find someone local that is able to do coding.

Mine took me about 45 minutes. Its easy. What stinks is that BMW lists the whole install with coding at a 1hr job...my dealer says it will be the 1hr minimum charge for coding. I think in the end I will come out cheaper because my dealer wouldn't sell the parts for less than MSRP so that plus the 1hr of labor would be more than my $207 for parts plus 1hr of labor for a 10min coding job. I don't have it coded yet...
