early deposit and still no prod. #
I'm just curious if anyone out there is in the same boat as me. I placed a deposit mid-summer. My dealer is saying BMW isn't accepting their orders at the moment (best interpretation is that they aren't accepting them from this dealership) but as soon as they do he will get me my production number. My question to the fine experts of this site is if this makes any sense to you.
I don't understand how the ordering game works but it seems odd to me that some dealerships would be able to place orders and others wouldn't. (although this doesn't appear to be a high-volume dealership) My spot in line isn't an issue. I was told I was second. Is my dealership playing games with me or is there a less shady explanation? thanks!

Only thing I can think of is that they only had one configurable allocation, and it is gone. Now you're in the 2nd allocation group. Either that, or they are playing with you, as dealers have their allocations.

Thanks Larry. I've taken the approach of being overly friendly with my sales guy but I think I'm gonna have to ratchet up the pressure and get some answers on this. I don't want to be waiting til May given that I had my deposit in so early.

I'm certainly not an expert, but:
I see you're from Atlanta. Major American city, lots of money, lots of great cars. That MUST mean there's a BMW dealer or two who's moving volume. Someone out there will take you seriously. Shop around, brother. (Not necessarily the same story Pittsburgh). 8)

joelk, that's pretty good advice that edge is giving. It certainly can't hurt. PM adrian's bmw who is a member here, and is the sales manager at BMW of South Atlanta. I've known him for a few years, and played in a few xbox Project Gotham Racing leagues for quite a while.
Actually, if you have your deposit there, contact Adrian and he'll get you the scoop. |

thanks guys. we'll see what type of explanation i get. if i get the feeling they aren't being honest with me i'll go somewhere else even if i have to wait longer.
i think the internet age makes it much more difficult for dealers to spout b.s. And again, I'm not saying they are lying to me ... but I'm going to get to the bottom of this asap. thanks again. edit: my deposit is not with bmw of south atlanta ... although i might switch to them....

I'm actually in the same position.
Deposit in and "no allocations yet" is all I hear. I'm no.2 on the list. Hmmmmmmmmm ??? |

My deposit went in early July, I'm #1 in line, and still no production number. Granted it is a small dealership, but I know all the people there pretty well (they sponsored my E36 M3 SCCA Solo effort for two years).

same boat
but i found out they got there first allocation, and it was for one launch car which is currently in production. All dealerships might not receive a launch vehicle. I am starting to think the larger stores receive an allocation for one car as a "launch" car and the smaller dealers just go right to group allocations for sale. |
