Signs of Respect
At starbucks today and saw a guy and his girl checking out my 1er. Looked at all angles, and even pointed out to his girl the fact that it's debadged. I didn't talk to him, but noted that they walked over and got into a really nice Porsche 911. Thought that it was pretty cool that he was admiring my car, considering that his Porsche cost at least twice as much.
Also, my wife drove it to work (I know, lucky gal) and parked away from other cars (good girl :smile. On Friday, the company president decided to park his Maseratti riiiight next to her. And I can only what he was thinking... Anyways, I think the message is out: You gotta respect the 1er! :respekt: |

Lots of folks notice the car, I get the impression there are more 'car folk' within society than I had previously considered reasonable. Reasonable? Huh? :iono:

The dealer did it before we picked it up...I think he mentioned something about fishing line.
Why debadge? Because it looks soo much cleaner, and because I'm not a fan of company marks. I guess I'm the opposite of the guy who would misbadge (like put an M on a 135) his car. |

In Europe, mainly those that are ashammed of their engine size debadge the cars. There are lots of small-displacement BMWs running around here, and funny that a measurable percentage appear to be debadged. To me the badge is part of the character of the car. It's OEM and period correct. I understand some like the clean(er) look. I'm happy to leave well enough alone.

I amazed at the attention I get, and the welcome of BMW brotherhood.
I was stopped again by someone in the parking lot, asking how much my 1er cost. When I went inside of the Target, I parked my 1er at the end of the lot near a e90 courtesy vehicle, also TiAg, and by the time I am back, there was yet another TiAg E90 parked right next to me. On Friday, another BMW fellow driver actually stopped to let me cut out in heavy traffic! Thanks a lot.

The whole debadging thing is a personal preference. Some think it keeps the car's rear clean-looking and is a necessity, others think it's a stupid idea and is better left alone. I'm the latter. Although, adding badges (i.e. M badge) to the rear is even worse.
EDIT: Unless maybe it's a DINAN badge. |

We had a great debadge discussion here.
I remember back in the day of my 2002 we all used to flash our headlights at each other in passing (BMW owners and especially 2002 owners), much in the same way the motorcyclists give the subtle wave. Now that was back before everyone had a BMW (or motorcycle, for that matter). I will probably do the same now for 1ers.

I agree and disagree on the debadge subject. At first I thought I would leave the 135i on. But now I think its fishing line time. With just the propeller emblem it looks so great. The 135i takes your eyes off the beauty of the car.

It takes a pretty shallow person to be that concerned with engine size. Personally I'm taking the badges off. I like the idea of the guy behind me in the Mustang who doesn't really know much about BMWs trying to figure out exactly why he can't get any closer. |
