Went to dealer today
Dropped by my dealer today to ask about the alarm and about getting the clicking sound from the seatbelt fixed. Well, I'm glad to say it was actually a pleasant experience. The assistant service manager went to the parts section with me and ordered the alarm. They quoted $500 installed which I guess is average. Then he called one of the mechanics over and asked about having to program the vehicle. He said it needs to be done along with the full software update since my car is pre-september. He also explained that the car has to be absolutely cold for the upgrade or the sensors might get fried.
So, they scheduled an appointment for next Thursday (parts should be here by then) and asked me to drop the car Wed. evening and my BMW loaner would be waiting. All three (service guy, parts guy, mechanic) were there helping me out and answering questions. On the way out I ran into the CA that sold me the car and he showed me his new ride: a Sparkling Graphite 330i. He said he could not go on taking people on test drives and not have one. This guy is 65 years old! Last edited by ga-bmwdrvr; 01-17-2006 at 11:53 AM.. Reason: adit car color |

So far so good,I dropped my car off this PM. I was waiting for the service lady while she went to copy my license and insurance within a couple of minutes of arriving and the manager peeks in and asks if I am being helped, he then offered me some coffee. I go to my loaner and it is a 330 E90 with premium and sports package, Alpine white with beige interior. I just keep waiting for something to go wrong.
So far they have been great. Maybe it is because we are in a smaller town and repeat business is more important. The only negative was that I asked about a filter and oil change and they quoted $120! I said no thanks. |

That's really "good" service in my oppinion. They might not be perfect, but at least they are trying to make your "experience" better.
My dealer here (the one I bought from) would basically tell me to "GO OVER THERE AND BOOK AND APPOINTMENT" and then would dissapear before I could even ask anything - and if I dared to ask for a loaner (because of a factory fault on my car) they would just look at me like I'm a freak. Luckily for me, there are at least 5 dealers nearby to me - and probably another 5 within an hours drive. |

I thought $80 for the oil change would be about right. BTW, they called this AM and said the parts dpt told them about an alarm they had for me, "did you want us to install it?'' Apparently the asst manager did not relay it to the manager (who was the one that called).
One thing I noticed is that at some dealers the managers do not take the time to deal with the customer. At this dealer they personally call you which is nice. |

Ok, got the call, the software update is done and went well, BUT, they could not install the alarm. Apparently my car has the wrong bracket for the alarm. She said this was ffrom the plant when it was built. anyone ever heard of theis? The only thing I can think of is that post Sept cars have an upgraded bracket, kind of like the missing sensor slots in the earlier cars. Any thoughts?

I thought it was the plastic trim piece for the motion sensor located in the middle of the headliner? |

stressdoc said, "Ask if they give BMWCCA discounts, especially for the oil change. $80 is more like it, depending on what all else they are doing."
__________________________________________________ __Good point to ask for the BMW(*******CCA discount, assuming of course that you are a member. On the other hand, the price quoted for an oil service is not particularly out of line now days. |

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3793 This forum really is incredibly helpfull. Basically your dealer jut needs to order and replace the interior motion sensor cover. The switch should be covered by warranty.

Edit: feeling like a total noob, I assumed that the cover had slots because the front cover has them. I checked my loaner and the front has slots but the center light cover does not. My mistake. Last edited by ga-bmwdrvr; 01-26-2006 at 05:29 PM.. |
