Comfort access question

I have CA in my 1er, is there a given distance they key should be away from the car so it can "go to sleep?" I leave my key hanging next to garage door and I feel as if the range on the remote and the distance required to lock/unlock using the door handle has significantly decreased since day one. Is it normal to need to have the key almost touching the door or trunk to unlock/lock? Sometimes if I have my key in left pocket I can't lock the door so I need to spin around. I may need to try the second key to see if I notice any difference. Any suggestions?

same thing with mine and it is PISSING ME OFF!

I cant even unlock the trunk with the key toughing the actual trunk! and then as soon as i go to unlock it it decides to unlock. same with the car door. I use to be able to walk right up with key in pocket and open and lock no problem but now it sucks and wont even unlock when i push the button but 2 feet away. WTF.

Both fobs do it and ive changed both batteries.

Wow...same here. Sometimes I'll out my hand on the door lever and nothing happens until my hip pocket -- which holds the fob -- is almost touching the door. Wasn't this way when I bought it, so I started inserting the fob into the ignition slot no matter how short the trip...

Normal keys do, CA keys are battery powered and do not. I have issues opening my trunk sometimes with the key in my pocket and have to resort to pushing the button on the key. I thought maybe putting the key in the dash would make it recognize it better but I don't think it does anything.

Sometimes for the trunk to open, you have to hold the switch on the trunk, then let go and press it again to open. It's weird. Also, I find when my key is in my pocket with my iPhone, it doesn't work as well.

Yeah, my car has a harder time detecting my key when in the same pocket as my phone. It's understandable because smartphones/cellphones may have some sort of interfering signals that prevents the key's signals. (I believe this is also mentioned in the manual...I know other car brands mention this in the manual)

It depends on the key and manufacturer. My Infiniti key fob has a battery... plugging into the dash slot for nearly 2 years (as advised by the dealer when I bought the car) did little to keep it charged. Other cars I've owned did recharge the key fob when "plugged in".

Disappointing to hear about the short range of the CA key fob. I was hoping it would be better than my Infiniti... sounds much worse instead.

When I took delivery of mine in 2009 the dealer told me to plug the fob into the car periodically. Usually if I'm driving a half hour or more plug it in. So that's what I've done and mine still works the same. If the key fob low battery light comes on in the dash I know it's been a while and I need to charge it. Which also gives me a reason to go drive for an hour or two. Once I do that the low battery light goes away on the dash for a few weeks unless I charge it again. It's been 4 years now and I have yet to replace a battery on the fob. I have also had my key in the house at least 15 ft and garage wall away from the car when not driving. I hope I don't start experiencing these problems.

I'm not sure if they changed it with newer models, but my 2008 CA key fob does not charge when plugged in. Only the non-CA keys will charge but the CA will need battery replacements.

Why not try installing a new battery?
